No, people don't think "I'm not going to get this because I'm my own person and am not a Sheep".

They don't get it because they don't want it.
And people also don't think "I want it because he has it".

They get it because they want it.

With all the violence of today more and more families are choosing a consol that lacks war games and such and sticking with the family friendly games.  With the hands on nature of the Wii most older people (parents) can learn easily and enjoy games with their children instead of trying to get their kid off and damn COD4.
