I'd say pricing is a huge factor. When the Wii, 360, PS3, DS and PSP first came out here in Australia, their prices were 400, 600, 999, 199 and 400 respectively. Even now, the PS3 is still over $600, and the Wii is something like $300.

90% of people are Sheep.

HEY GUYS, NEW FAD!?
Wrong, every person except two are sheep: One person says "this is cool" and  most people follow him, while the other says "omg u r sheep i am non-conformist rebil" and the others follow him.
No, people don't think "I'm not going to get this because I'm my own person and am not a Sheep".

They don't get it because they don't want it.
And people also don't think "I want it because he has it".

They get it because they want it.

Not many appealing games
Wii is more family orientated, thus more fun
QFT!
With all the violence of today more and more families are choosing a consol that lacks war games and such and sticking with the family friendly games.  With the hands on nature of the Wii most older people (parents) can learn easily and enjoy games with their children instead of trying to get their kid off and damn COD4.
