Nvidia Quadro FX 550 ( i think it's 128mb) ---playing with this one

Or

Nvidia GeForce 6200 ( I think it's 256mb) --- it's in the other computer

Thanks

unless I'm terribly mistaken, the fx 550 is basically a higher clocked fx 540. The fx540 is the "professional" 6600. So you should stick with the fx 550

Bingo. GeForce will serve you much better.

but you can still game on it. There shouldn't be much of a difference FPS wise

Tricky one to answer actually max, Quadro's are optimized for OpenGL, whereas GeForce's are optimized for DirectX, in very simplistic terms.

I think they'll be close, but, a_reborn_vetaran, are the rest of the specs of the two machines equivalent?

Any other variations in system configurations will introduce their own variability into the equation.

the optimization is done mainly on the driver level though. The way I understand it both (geforce & quadro) are pretty much the same hardware wise, but on the geforce OpenGL functionality is crippled. For the quadros the directX functionality is not removed. Even if the fx550 doesn't perform as good as a 6600 (due to bad optimization) it should still be better than a 6200, which has next to no power. no?

Well, the computer with the FX is a lot better then the one with the GeForce.

The FX computer has 1Gb Ram, 2 CPU's ( each 1.86 Ghz) + the free space on the C drive is like 120 Gig. (The sound card is really good)
The GeForce computer has 512Mb Ram and only 2 Ghz + the free space on the C drive is only 1Gig and on the other one only 13Gig. (The sound card is good but less good then the other one)

Thanks already for all your responses!

_should_

which is why I asked for how the rest of the system specs compared...

now we know, yeah, from the details given, I'd go with the fx550 too.

so, a_reborn_vetaran, what is the answer?

erm?

I got the impression you've got two machines, one for each of the afformentioned video cards - if that is the case, can't you just try it?

Well, my problem is that I don't know HOW to switch those vid cards... (I'm just 16 and I don't know anything about hardware replacements)

Pull out the old card (careful, there's a little tab you need to press in).

Push in new card.

Job done. Now you just install drivers and away you go.

Not forgetting to disconnect/reconnect the power connectors as you go, of course.

Do either of them have power connectors?

From what I remember, neither do.
