I think you are right.  Hindsight is 20/20 though.  Still better to admit a mistake than to continue the mistake even after it has been exposed.  WMD's much?????

I just dont understand how they believed the "eveidence" (using the term loosely) when it was released.
Colin Powell/ Rumsfeld  "right here we see a mobile chem lab"
Edwards   " It looks like a truck"
Powell/ Rumsfeld  "that's what the enemy wants you to think"
Edwards  "OK, thats good enough for me.  Someone has to pay for 9/11 right or wrong, Lets go to war"

2 years later
Edwards  "Well it appears i made a mitake about the war in Iraq.  The voters have told me that they will only vote for me if i change my stance.  And the mobile chem lab also turned out to be a truck."
Colin Powell: Terrorists are not greatest threat to nation.

"What is the greatest threat facing us now? People will say it's terrorism. But are there any terrorists in the world who can change the American way of life or our political system? No. Can they knock down a building? Yes. Can they kill somebody? Yes. But can they change us? No. Only we can change ourselves. So what is the great threat we are facing?"

"Former secretary of state Colin L. Powell said yesterday that he decided to publicly oppose the Bush administration's proposed rules for the treatment of terrorism suspects in part because the plan would add to growing doubts about whether the United States adheres to its own moral code."

"The former American secretary of state Colin Powell has revealed that he spent 2½ hours vainly trying to persuade President George W Bush not to invade Iraq and believes today’s conflict cannot be resolved by US forces."
Powell tried to talk Bush out of war

Powell was forced into a position he did not want to be in. Educate yourselves.

CameronPoe, why do you think the UN still exists? I really have no idea at this point. Most of Europe bitches about it, we hate it, and I don't know who the hell is really for it...

I have no idea. Probably nobody has the balls to say 'Let's call it a day'. Nobody wants to take the blame.

If I'm not mistaken, Edwards has openly and repeatedly admitted being WRONG in his estimate.  that alone makes him 100x more honest, believable, and credible a leader than the current presidential candidates who haven't said that.  Oh wait, they all have except that senile old turd from Arizona who is winning GOP votes.. lol

Winning GOP votes? If you believe the polls you might be suffering from a dose of dementia yourself.

I'm taking it this is the thread where we show how much politicians "flip-flop" (as if it is a bad thing to change your mind about something)?

Mitt Romney -
Pro-choice in 1994, Pro-Life in 2008.  Wait, though, supporting the Death Penalty isn't really pro-life is it?

Fred Thompson -
"Abortion should be legal in all circumstances for the first three months."  Describes himself now as pro-life and says "that was a mistake..."

I can find much more, maybe later I'll add some.

Let me know if you need help. I couldn't  care less about party affiliation. Both sides have been selling out the American people for a very long time now.

Edit: Remember my Dick Cheney thread?

I originally thought of including Dick Cheney and GWB, but it is just too easy.

There's nothing wrong with changing your opinion about an issue after the facts. It's just annoying to see that one person is still taking blame for it while others who should be taking blame as well are the ones placing the blame.

It is true that we better ourselves by always re-evaluating our views. However, voting to send someone into a fight, and then voting to yank the funding they need to survive is tragically disgraceful.

He voiced his opinion prior to the war. But like a true military man he served his country and his President in the end.

Thats the thing.  He has more power than god as a general.  To see him ruin his image for the guy who has got a year left in office was sad and disappointing.

It comes with the job I guess. As evident by some post here you can see that most people don't know what really was happening. Not only was his advice brushed off, he was the one who was put in front of the entire world as the war salesman. What is higher than a God General? A Commander in Chief. He was one voice against an entire administration (actually more than the administration, see op).  Even today he is reluctant to speak out about some things combat related. When asked why he says, "there is a war going on". He puts his duty ahead of his own honor. A true Patriot in my opinion.

True, but I have to use discretion when associating blame. For me I need to look at the specific role that everyone played. There is no comparison between Powell and Rummy.
