In the basement I now have a PC hooked up to the TV using a DVI input, using a 2.5mm jack (like you have in MP3 players) for sound.

The PC is currently hooked up the the speakers that are for the TV (used when watching movies), but I have some nice music-speakers in the same room.

What I want to do is easily switch between having my PC hooked up the the TV speakers when watching movies, and Music Speakers when listening to music. However, I want the Media Center screen to be on the TV at all times.

So I would like to have 1 2.5mm jack connected to the TV speakers and 1 connected to the music-reciever, and be able to switch between them without having to pull them in and out of the PC. Is this possible?

As a side note, is there a big difference between an HDMI and DVI connection? Haven't had the chance to watch a movie on it yet.

My TV is connected to my PC, and I used a splitter to plug both jacks into my PC:

Worked for me.

Make sure it's a stereo splitter though, not mono.

While that's one way to do it, it's overly complex.

If I understand right, you can use that to plug the two systems outputs in to the single speaker systems setups. Use extenders and RCA adapters where necessary.

That's from a store near where I live, you may have to order one online because apart from that one I haven't seen them carried anywhere else. Not saying they're diamond rare, but they're not common.
