I was trying out that gigabyte easy tune 5 to see how it overclocked. My cpu is 1.86ghz stock so i put the fsb up a little to make it 2.0ghz, then went into bf2 loaded up a server and it was really jumpy like when i run it stops and starts i checked my temps they were like 55C idle and about 65 while gaming. Is that lag from the cpu overheating or because of the easytune 5 program i used?

When i turn the cpu back to 1.86 it goes back to normal btw my mobo is a gigabyte 965P-DS3.

You should OC in BIOS. Forget about those windows based oc programs.

Yea thats what i was getting at to not sure if it was overheating or caused by that program i used. Im only using the stock heatsink on the cpu but is 52C a good temp for idle and about 60ish while gaming.

temps are on the high side. My friends E6320 OC'ed to 2.8ghz has load temps of 60c with stock cooler. idles at 40c.

There is a page like this is BIOS.
https://www.legitreviews.com/images/reviews/418/health.jpg

Those Smart fan control mode/method settings are where you can change the fan speed.

When i go into the bios the option that says "cpu host frequency" is locked so i cant select it is there anyway to unlock it? also is this the option that changes the fsb?

Gigabyte boards often have the OC settings 'locked' so users with no knowlegde won't be able to damage the hardware.
FSB settings can be unlocked by pressing Ctrl+F1.

Yea ctrl+f1 unlocks options but still wont let me touch "cpu host frequency"

you need to set the cpu host clock control enabled first.

Just before i enable the clock control it gives me a warning to turn something about the voltage from manual to auto do i do that?

assuming it is the CPU vcore voltage, yes. We'll get back to the voltage settings if OC'ed higher than 2.8Ghz.

Yea im only going for about 2.4ghz until i get a better heatsink.

The stock can go to 2.8ghz easily. That is at stock voltage.

Yea im not sure what happend i turned on that clock control option and it let me change the fsb but it said "system voltage not optimised" and it was flashing red it said i should turn it from manual to auto but if i do that wont it change the voltages by itself?

yep. auto means it changes the voltage by itself. I recommend having CPU voltage on auto because that is enough for stock cooler OC.

when i turned it on auto cpu-z prog said my cpu was like 1.4 voltage or something isnt that dangerous to have it on auto if it changes ur cpu voltage level anyway i have it set on manual as default it said "system voltage level" not cpu voltage tho unless they are the same thing.

yes you can keep CPU voltage as manual and 1.35v. Doing so won't change the NB voltage. You are good to go change the FSB now.

anyway so i had it at 2.2ghz and it worked but then i bumped it up to 340 fsb thats 2.380ghz but it crashed on me not sure whats going on there.

Make sure your memory clocks aren't too fast, that's what happened to me when I was overclocking at first.

Yea i think this might be the problem because my mobo + cpu should clear 2.4 easily how do i fix the memory clocks? My ram is corsair 2gb XMS2 pc-6400 800mhz 5-5-5-18 frequency is 400mhz fsb:dram is 2:3 according to cpu-z

change the FSB:RAM ratio to 1:1 and it should work

my e6300 is running at 2.8ghz will go to 3.4 (on air, tuniq tower 120) but pointless and its well quick on 2.8ghz. Also you hit your memory strap (when memory slows down) at 400fsb on gigabyte boards.
