mmyeah. I'm going to say stay out of this one..lol.

I'm sure Russia is willing to accept them with open arms into a "Union" of sorts...

All nice and well, but don't the people there have the right to self-determination?Parker wrote:

russia doesnt give half a fuck about those people......so their rights are all nice and well, but what will be the repercussions?
we are balancing on the next world war, russia fucking around with other countries does NOT inspire confidence.
It really doesn't concern me. Also if these regions are of little economic importance to Georgia they should just let it go instead of fight for something that will just make the country worse.
I'd choose economic prosperity over "pride" because when you're richer in the future you'll look back and laugh at those silly provinces that broke away and are now probably worse off.

Well, who cares if Russia is just using them towards their own ends. If the people of those two regions want independence, why shouldn't they use Russia to achieve their own goals?Parker wrote:

And this says they defeated the Georgian military, so they're basically independent, just no one recognises them? Seems pretty similar to Kosovo(including a bit of ethnic cleaning), TBH, so I don't know why the double standards here...
That would make too much sense, Mek.Mek-Izzle wrote:

Abkhazia?? omg lol
Kosovo, I can sorta ( and I do mean sorta) understand. That place has been a hell hole of racial/ethnic hatred and loathing since before the first world war. If Kosovo being independant will/may calm that down a tad..so be it.
But...Abkhazia??
The next thing you know, you'll find 50 fairly wealthy home/landowners somewhere in (insert country of choice here) and want to call themselves "New McMansionania"...
This is funny tbh.
If this keeps up, Russia will simply re-absorb all these little tit-for-tat semi nations, and what will the UN do? What will the EU do?
They will throw paperwork and curses across the meeting halls, file resolutions, and generally act like overpaid children. And to what end?
Nobody will bother the Russians over these little places.

just to let you know, im not the west....im a hoosier from missouri that remembers what the russians are capable of.
Well, the first part was for you. The rest was relating to the topic at hand. Seems that some countries were perfectly happy to recognise Kosovo, and do not want to recognise these two. Hence, the double standards comment.Parker wrote:

Or do you want me to debate with you exclusively? That can be arranged, but I have to go to the shop first, so...
