More specifically, how do I tune a guitar to Drop D? I know you mess around with the low E string, but do I tune it higher or tune it lower? I've got an electronic tuner so that helps.
I believe you tune it lower. Thus the "drop" D. I'm not entirely sure, however since I generally stick to regular tuning.
I think you "drop" a few strings, but it definately involves the low E.
tune E down to D, leave the rest the same (D is two below E)ddenholm67 wrote:

also: standard tuner for when you're done.
Magic.
But you don't need to Drop D if you want to play Bolero Of Fire on the Ocarina of Time.AWSMFOX wrote:

if you want it so the strings are eBGDAD (high to low) heres how to tune the guitar with your ear. (not literally)
* * < finger pluck them strings
finger pluck E and D at the same time (use thumb and index finger)
You should notice they make a wavering sound like wawawawawa (not the best description)
Tune the E string down while plucking these two strings until you cant hear the wavering sound.
That means you have drop D
To test it bar your index finger against the 2nd fret and the DAD (222) strings, it should sound exactly like the E chord. (022)
If you have a standard Tuner hold down the 2nd fret on the E string
Down tune untill it comes up as E
D is 1 step lower then E, each fret is 1/2 steps.
Hope that helps, sorry if its confusing
standard tuning = e
B
G
D
A
E
*edit, just read post below, and i said the wrong string to pluck sorry*

Good Idea although I find it much easier to pluck the low e and the d. Then just tune the low e down the two steps until it matches the d. Badda bing badda bow.belldawg wrote:
