Yes, I'm joining the dark side. I don't feel as bad about it because it's 25 bucks at Best Buy, probably meaning thea EA gets less cash

I'm no noob to BF2, I'm decent in BF2. I can shoot a gun and hit my targets. I'm no Osk or BushViper, but I'm not utter shite.

So basically what I'm asking is tips on how to get points and learn the game at the same time. From my beta experiences it seemed like Support and Assault were the best kits for this, but Recon and Engineer also intrigue me. What's a good unlock tree? I'm hoping to specialize with Engineer and Recon, or Engineer and Assault, and I enjoy being squad leader. What are the ESSENTIAL unlocks, and the ones that I can wait on?

Then, what are some of the better maps? Mainly, the better infantry maps and the better vehicle maps. Like Karkand and Mashtuur are great infantry in BF2, whilst Dalian and Oman seem to be choice for vehicles. What are the equivalents in 2142?

Yes, I realize there's a forum on this. But maybe this topic could develop into a "Newbie's Guide to BF2142" so mods before you click the big "LOCK" button, just think of what this could be

Revive-gizmo for Assault is a must, costs you a single unlock... And grenades. First two right there.

I got it today from Best Buy for 25.00 I wouldn't pay any more for it though. The last three expansion packs were a real let down so I didn't want to pay 50.00 for this one. Thanks Best Buy

Also try grabbing other people kits when your a low rank, chances are they'll have more useful stuff than you.
Remember awards are worth career points. More points are earned if your in a squad fullfiling orders. Know what you kit can do before using it. Took me ages to realize support guns gain accuracy while suppresing fire.

TIP = DO  Good game, and very fun.  Grats for jumping over to the "Dark Side".  Assault is a good point scoring kit, and also deals out great killing power.  The support is an infantry killer, plain and simple, and its fun to "lock down" walkers with EMP nades.  The recon class is fun, APM's make you feel evil, and the Lambert is a great gun.

Yeah the granades and first sprint unlock should be you first 2 unlocks.
Most important tip is play Titan mode in the beggining sice you can get ALOT more points than in conquest, mainly due to pins and combat inside the titan. You should be able to get 2 titan destruction pins every round by destroying 8 titan guns. Thats 56 points and if your lucky you can get it in 1-2 minutes. Best map for it it Sidi Powerplant because every Silo has an AA gun (one in the middle has 2). For comparison Suez Canal has only 1 I think.

Also in the beggining, without unlocks, support class is the best. With those LMGs you get, you dont need anything else.
AND you will get tips to unlock CLARK shoutgun, BAUR and GANZ and people will claim that they are the best guns in the game. But those guns are, kind of, not for everyone. You should realy try them out in single player first. Combinations that almost everyone agrees that own are "that Voss L-AR with rocket attachment and defib" or "Lambert with APM and C7". They are both awsome for titan attack/defend and for city maps.

If you liked AT class in BF2 you will just LOVE the engineer in bf2142. Without unlocks its average but when you get the Vechile Detector, emp mines, motion mines and THE Pilum it becomes very powerfull. My first unlocks were all for engineer class.

But most importantly play in squads. Add some players from here to your buddy list, or if you have other mates that play, play with them. It gives you a huge advantage against unorganised players. And bunch of additional points.

Edit:

As you can see its not hard to rank up in the beggining and get unlocks.
