Dang, I saw something about that before I bought the game but since it played ok I never bothered to look for it again. What was the workaround?

- 5 minute time-out on Linksys WAG54G router
The odd thing for me is that the machine I am running BF2142 on is connected to the router via CAT5 cable not wirelessly. I do use two laptops that connect wirelessly to my router but that should have nothing to do with anything. Are you guys using your router as a DHCP server as well? Also would MAC address filtering effect the game in any way. I don't seee how but I'm out of ideas.
I am not using any MAC filtering, basically just turned on the router, cloned the MAC on my computer and got online. It is running DHCP. I am almost down to dragging my computer into my living room, where the modem is, and running it from there to see how it works. BTW also have a linksys cable modem.
I am thinking that there is a port that we don't know about that needs to be open. Of course EA doesn't have a clue. I just think it's BS to have to go buy a new router not knowing if that will even resolve the problem.
Well, he's the responce I got back from EA and guss what?????? We have all already tried all these things!!

Hello,
Thank you for contacting Electronic Arts. I’m sorry for the difficulty that you are having with Battlefield 2142.
As a side note: Have you tried disabling VOIP from within the in game control options and see if this helps?
There has been an issue with the PunkBuster update tool. Click on the link below to download and read about the files needed. Note: This link will bring you to the PunkBuster website. For any information on the PunkBuster files please contact Evenbalance.

Errors like these can be caused several things. It can be from the accounts servers itself, the connection between the account servers and your internet connection, certain files within your game that is preventing proper communication between your computer and the servers, or something as simple as your hardware that needs to be reconfigured for optimal connection to the account servers
You can try connecting directly to your broadband modem and bypass your router and see if this allows you to connect online to the game.
If you have other games that have online gameplay, you can also try and see if you can connect online using these games.
Another suggestion would be this:
Please try this and see if this resolves your game issue:
1. Click on the Start button.
2. Click on the My Documents icon.
3. Right-click on the Battlefield 2142 folder.
4. Select delete.
5. Try the game again.
Then retrieve your account and see if you can connect online.
If you cannot retrieve your original account you can try making a new account using a different username and email address, just for testing purposes and see if you can connect online now.
If you successfully connect online using your alternative account, please fill in the following information and reply back and we will investigate this matter:
username:
email used to create account:
If, on the other hand that you cannot successfully log in still, chances are that there may be corrupted game files that may have been corrupted, either on your windows Xp account or on the game installation.

Any fresh ideas on this?
I tried after the connection crapped out on me connecting to the neighbors wireless connection, and it worked. Unless there is something really screwy, that confirms something in the router. I have no firewall running and have turned off the firewall on my router, but didnt enable any dmz stuff.
The neighbors router I'm pretty sure is the run of the mill router given by the cable company with no advanced features. Any ideas on what I can do to provide evidence of this? I may go any buy a 50 foot cat cable to see if I can just connect the computer to the modem and see what happens.
Thanks,
Current router is Linksys WRT54g v6 running ddwrt sp2

What firmware version are you running?
Im running whatever firmware version is the latest on dd-wrt. I think its sp2/micro. I had the sp1 and had the same problems.
I tried playing last night on my connection, kept getting the cant connect to server, or whatever message you get when you see a server that is obviously low ping and not full and it wont let you connect.
After trying about 5 times on 5 different servers the refresh of the server browser became a little slow.
I disconnected from my cable connection, connected wirelessly to the nieghbors cable connection, and bam I was online and playing in no time. In fact I saw more servers than I ever saw on my connection. Even some strange ones with names that looked like phone numbers with 0 ping....
Anyway, I dont have VOIP on. I have turned off any firewall and even tried the DMZ crap. Nothing works. Still havent tried a direct connection to the cable modem but that involves about 30 minutes of setup time both ways to move the system to the bedroom and Im not in the mood right now. Any updates from anyone else?

Tried again last night, must not have enabled the DMZ before, it worked. Connected to the first server I tried. No extenisve testing yet though.
Does the DMZ need to be enabled?
As far as I can tell it does, turn it on and enter the IP for your computer. I havent taken the time yet to figure out how to enter the port redirection yet but that might substitute for doing this.
Ok, after trying everything we have discussed I am still having the issue. I am wondering if the router is not the problem. Does anyone have a wireless router hooked up and using it that is not getting the "Connection to the EA master server has been lost" message? I would love to know so that I can go purchase a wireless router that will actualy allow me to play 2142 for more than 3 to 4 minutes. Any help would be appreciated.
What type router are you using so I know which one woud be a good purchase?
Wanted to give everyone a quick update on this issue. Yesterday I hooked up a NetGear router (Not Wireless) and tried to play 2142 through it. However, I still get the same "Your Connection to the EA Master Server has been lost." error message after about 3 to 4 mins. So the Linksys router obviously is not the problem. Any other thoughts from anyone on a way to resolve this. EA is lost and I'm out of ideas. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I'm am still having this problem. Has anyone seen a fix for this or is anyone else getting the same type problem.
I use WiFi version (GS i beleive) of the router.
Never had any problem.
Never had any problem.
Finally sovled the mystery. I uninstalled my VPN software that I had loaded to work from my PC and that resolved the issue. I'm so glad that EA thought to put that info out there on their website. F@cking idiots!!!!!
you guys need to satrt talking in english
i got a netcomm nb1300 wirlees router and i can only connect for exactly 4 minutes aswell.
really annoying, but only seemed to pop up with the 1.05 patch.
so anyideas yet?

if u cant get a fix for it, install a packet capture program, put AVG anti virus on and trust windows firewall or use mcphee;s firewall.
