I'm trying to help out a friend find a good cell phone that follows these rules:

Not too expensive
Calls the number you want (nothing else really needed)
Small(ish)
Simple
not a flip phone
And is compatible with t-moble.

Some of these can be a bit different but whatever.
Thanks for all the help you can give.

Well, I was going to suggest NOT getting the Motorola E815 because its a piece of shit (its what I have) but it is a flip phone and not t-mobile.

Verizon all the way for me - sorry i got nothing.

You will probally be looking for something by Nokia.  I think that they are one of the few cellphone manufactures that still have a non-flip line.  Samsung also has some nice phones that are not the flip models, and are smallish, and cheap.  One of their phones was $49.99 and was about the size of a credit card in heigth.

http://www.t-mobile.com/shop/phones/Def … able=false  should help you out.

Check out the T-509 or T-609 (Trace). You can find both on T-Mobile's US website: http://www.t-mobile.com

Get the mil spec motorola.  That way, when your connection fails (and it will no matter your provider), you can chuck it at a wall and the thing still works.  God I love throwing my phone Russel Crow style!
I stood in line for four hours. They better give me a Wal-Mart gift card, or something.  - Rodney Booker, Job Fair attendee.

My advice is to shop on Amazon. I got my Motorola E815 for -$25.00 with a 1-year Verizon plan there. I'm not sure how they do it but I paid $175 and got $200 of rebates a few months later. The same phone would have cost me $70 on the Verizon website.

I have the E815 too and it's got some serious shortcomings--it's bulky, the ringer style gets changed when you carry it in your pocket, the alarm is unreliable, changing the mp3 player volume changes the ringer volume, mediocre contact list, annoying start-up sound, lots of stupid software glitches. But the mp3 player is not bad and I get great connections and sound on my calls. And microSD memory card ftw!
