Ok, i'm not too much of one to post in the tech section, but i decided most of you guys know a whole hella' lot more about this stuff than me.  So basically, I'm about to buy a new router, but i really have no idea about which to get or about them at all.  I'm going to use this router for my new Wii, yea, its pretty sweet, and also for my notebook.  What are the best deal, and where can i find them... again, i know nothing about this subject, so any help is greatly appreciated.

thnx, fester

You can get routers that are wireless or non wireless that use Cat5 cable to connect the computers, thought the router of course.

lol no thats the point of a WIRELESS router.

I deal with routers everyday with my job, and i would personally reccomend the netgear router, it has ease of use, and what i like best is the security functions of it, the new netgear has software installed on it to email you a daily report, or any attacks or even port scans.

I knew a client had a tracking cookie, becuase this software picked it up.

my 2cents.

Edit for above post.   The netgear router im talking about with the software also comes with 'wireless' capabilities.  Hit me up if i can help ya more.

that is a cable modem, you have a modem already, you run you erthernet cable from your modem to your wireless router, you desktop will connect to your router with another erthnet cable, laptop and WII will connect wirelessly.

you need something like this, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6833124190

that is just an example, there are others to choose from

if you get a router and try to get the wireless connection to your notebook its better to have an rj-45 cable connect straight to your laptop, unless you are going to move  around the house when u use ur laptop but when u play bf2, i assume u might be close to ur router and if u use the direct connection you have a higher priority of not having to worry about losing or  getting an weaker internet signal.

the way i understand it, he has a desktop pc atm and the lappy, he has the pc hardwired and wants to do as u say 'move around with it', i think he still intends to game on his pc.

Just to help you out here, a router is designed to route the packages of data that your request from across the internet.

This router would do what you want to do.  This also supports the 802.11 b/g that the Wii uses.  It is also $39.99 (USD) at Newegg.

Do you have a preference to what brand that you want to use?  I know that some people would say get a Dlink, because they are a fan boy, others say Linksys or Netgear for the same reason.  I have personally used them all and think that Dlink may have the worse interface, then Linksys, and Netgear has the best interface IMO.  If you do not know how to set some things up, then you should probally get a Linksys or Dlink, since their interface is made more for home users.
