Recently been thinking about patching back to 1.22 (as i started playing BF2 post mega black hawk wh0ring days) and wanted to see what all the fuss was about.

What patch do you play?

Are there many ranked servers around for it?

Is the gameplay any better / worse?

I patched to 1.41 because that's what my favorite server (Dead Meat) is running. I'd probably run whatever patch they decided to go with.

1.41 becauses I like to stay up to date with everything. If there was a mass decision to revert back to another patch, I would be all for it. But I'm able to adapt and don't bitch about every little thing so I just go with the latest since, no matter what you say, is usually the fairest, most legit, and has the most people on it.
