YES !!!

last night i laughed my a$$ off as during 2 rounds on wake 3 J10s were downed by my COBRA.

1st round: the first one by tvm of my gunner while we were surpressing enemy infantry on north village during the advance off our troops. saw the j10 coming in from airfield and lining up for the kill, but we were quicker - just a small lift of the nose, a quick reaction and true aim of my gunner and first J10 was history.

2nd round: a known TKer for vehicles couldn't get the cobra on US side for himself so he switched to PLA. All in all not many people were left anymore (about 11-12 per side) and of course all in vehicles, j10s were harassing the carrier all the time. somehow we managed to take off with the cobra during a small arty/j10 break and look who comes in for some carrier rapping (in a J10)- our known tk friend. well me and my m8 we said, lets have a little fun and play with the guy. so we evaded him a couple of times, looked at his flight profile and then faced him square-on when he lined up for a high-speed approach. My gunner's TVM missed just shortly, but then 3 of my rockets just blew him out of the sky.  - LOL , LMAO - I bet he didn't expect that ... and we didn't have one scratch.

But sweet on revenge this guy naturally climbed again in the next J10 and wanted to get at us badly.
Same thing, lining up, coming in, face-off ... TVM misses barely, but again a couple of rockets left a nice J10 debris cloud in the blue sky of wake island.

Next thing happening: player XXX has been disconnected from server. the guy had enough and quit...
And he even wasn't a bad flyer as i could see from some previous rounds previously , so the more gratifying for us ... and a bit of luck of course ;P.

Naturally this is only possible if you see them fixed wingers coming in for the kill first.

Nice done, but getting a heli down with a plane is easy for a skilled pilot, especially a j-10.
Did he attack from above also? i always attack helis from above, 95% of time they die.

i agree on this if the heli is not aware of the jet, but facing the choppers square on and the chopper pilot being aware of you coming in can sometimes give the jet pilot a nasty surprise. well the heli pilot/gunner should also not be complete noobs (*cough-cough* not to be overly presumptuous as i'm not an expert yet).

1st time J10 came in from above and the 2nd & 3rd time from same level resp. slightly below. (we were at about 100 ft/m (i don't know the unit in the HUD) height.

Lol, well done, shooting down jets in a chopper is always fun, especialy if you know them or they are already pissed off, then you can rub it in their face.

Yes agree, but thats why i always attack them from above with no lock, just rain of bullets.
They wont notice, and they cant look straight above them. But its still hard to get a plane out of air with a heli, noob pilot or not. Or he flys really slow straight at you

yeah, me too in a jet i always go in with the bullets raining from above preferably at the choppers side. but as a chopper pilot i'am always on the lookout for everything at all heights and i pilot accordingly to have this general vision every couple of seconds. so a jet coming straight-on even from above is seen. only jets from behind if there is now warning (no friendly spot, uav echo) cannot be "seen".

This particular guy came in at high speed without AA radar, but as said before we were aware of him and reacted accordingly.

This is how it theoretically goes, IMHO

Slow flying past you => turn and follow => try to TV the Jets tail
Jet attacking head on w. speed => try TV:ing straight to the face
Jet coming slowly head on => the most embarrassing for the jetpilot => Hellfire-kill!

Agree, but a plane is still the winner if u have a very skilled pilot against a skilled heli pilot.
I even can take out choppers with the laser guided missle from the backseat of my F15, no lock, no warning, great distance and 1 shot one kill.

True, sometimes as a chopper pilot I feel like an endagered species as suddenly my health-bar goes rapidly down without warning. Never been "laezad", though..

ad b) with or without speed: tvm right at his nose and for good measure a nice spread of rockets that he can fly into (that's what happened with my 2 victims)
ad c) anything goes as it's a snail that is approaching - guns, tvms and rockets

Hehe, its EA's fault that planes dominate often too much in BF2. Even a private can fly a whole round in the j10 without being getting shot.

i pilot choppers allot and i find J10s are more easily brought down by pilot missles rather than tvs.  most jet pilots fly right at u when they go for the kill and the best defence is watching them and waiting for them to fly right at u then when they heading at u spam ur pilot missles at them, u will usually get a few hits in.

well as i said the server was quite empty and after having spotted him, i just kept him in my vision field all the time as I was not distracted by IGLAs. the only thing he could have done is abort the run, get high in the fog and try to start again an approach and this time come from my dead angle (from behind = "doggy style" ;P). but hey most jockeys are so eager to get the kill asap that he also just wanted to rush the job this time.

100% right: 2-3 rockets straight on and they're history. tvm normally take them out from a lot farther out, but with the rockets you can almost see the look of surprise on their faces when they realize "OH SHIT - EVADE EVADE - BAAAAAAAAAAM - YOU HAVE BEEN KILLED BY XXX"

DonFck is the shit one  needs for taking out them planes, but he has also TV:ed a couple of them!!!
Most chopper pilots underestimate the gunner and doesn´t even bother to line up for a easy kill(f35b coming very slow against you). Off course, I don´t bother lining up for a plane kills either if the gunner can´t even hit tanks all the time....

I only have about 10 nose kills with TV missiles on j 10:s , some of them were very lucky shots, maybe 3 of them were coming quite slow against us...
But I have at least 50 kills of J 10:s shot in the ass, but that doesn´t require any more skill than hitting a chopper... It´s just the plane pilots fault for making himself an easy target...

If you are up against a good pilot with chopper(and I now speak as a veteran gunner (*hrm*))
then the only way to waste a plane is by a lucky shot in the nose, and this is not skill, only luck!!!!
You can´t possibly hit a good pilot in the ass in no way, no matter what plane he uses..well a bomber maybe(5% chance)...cause he knows what he is up against and know how to make his moves!!!!

I believe that my fellow expert gunners agree in this matter!!!!!

IN 300 hours of flying, ive been taking down 1 time by a heli, that was with a tvm and i was piloting the Su34.
It was a expert heli pilot.

yeah, if i line up something (be it tank, chopper or sth else) and spot it, i suppose my gunner goes for it with the appropriate weapon. if i see that he doesn't react at all (looking at the gunner's view direction) or he shoots the tvm straight as an arrow into the void, well then it's as if i'm alone in the chopper. so know your chopper gunner resp. pilot well and you can also participate in chopper-jet air combat.

nose kills on high speed jets are lucky shots, because target profile is the smallest. on the other hand jets which are passing by you on the verge of a stall are really easy targets flown by bad pilots once you turn around.

i concur, an experienced jet pilot will never do a slow run at a chopper - so hitting on of them either nose on or up the a$$ is pure luck as you say. if i'm in a jet i will also break hard or do some random maneuver after passing the chopper so that the risk of getting a hard tube up my behind is also smaller. the jets are then also faster than the tvm and this coupled with evasive maneuvers give them a clean-out and a second chance for the kill. only bombers which are slower and have a slower turn rate have a higher risk for getting nailed from behind.

Myself: abt. 70 hours Aviator & abt. 130 hours Chopper (mostly ~90% pilot)
am veteran heli/aircraft, should get the expert on both more or less soon with Helicopter/Air Combat Medals
choppers stats not too good, but i'm only recently playing with a more or less stable bunch of guys as ok gunners. before there were a lot of the "shoot tvm into the void" or "shoot tank with mg" guys which couldn't see much less hit an infantry at 5 m distance in front of the chopper.

for the aircraft, i'm not too proud of myself :-/ , because there i mostly use a J10 and only sometimes other jets

for choppers, it doesn't matter which i take

- BUT NEVER RAPING CARRIER (jet or if i'm chopper pilot)!!! -
imo it takes no skill to do that on such a small spawn surface without cover and the round is boring for both teams if US cannot at least try to make an exit
eg. carriers on Dalian, Oman, Wake, Dragon, ...

lol that would be cool to see...never got a plane with chopper best ive done was shoot a bomber out the sky with a sraw....he was flying full speed and came over hanger to reload and i just shot straight up and blew him out the sky....was very lucky shot:P

I have no problem shooting J10s down, just come up behind em (easiest at airfield) and dont switch to missles yet.  Then just gun em down, and if they start moving erratically, switch to missles and fire all 6 as fast as you can, giving the highest probability of hitting!
