What do you guys study at uni/college? anyone do computer science or electric engineering? How do you find it?

Would appreciate some info on how much work, opinion, etc

thanks

I'm a CpE (computer engineering), which is in essence a combination of both computer science and electrical engineering.

It's kind of cliche` but if you're good at math, and I don't mean algebra. If you're good at differential equations, thinking mathematically and enjoy material science courses, then you'll probably be best fit in an EE major.

If you like programming, can think recursively, and want to enter a profession with one of the highest suicide rates, go CS .

I chose CpE because it takes the fundamentals of CS, and combines it with a lot of the material stuff of EE. Still has a lot of the math and equations. Understanding electricity is not something that just happens overnight, so it's a rough process at first, but gets easier. Right now I'm taking a signals & systems course which deals with fourier transforms and various system integrations with signal representations. Then also a digital logic/computer assembly class which discusses the core programming of cpu's and microcontrollers. Then a material science semi-conductor class which is mostly just physics in how semi-conductors work based on their chemical composition or given variables. Then finally a data structures class taught in C for my "CS" influence.

Choose what interests you. You'll enjoy it more, and just remember that every college starts out with the bullshit pre-reqs and concept/fundamental/theory classes before ever getting into the hands on. Make it through your first 2 to 3 years, and then enjoy the downhill ride from there.

not much use to you, but i'm a mechanical engineer that works at an electronics company.

and if you do plan on getting into engineering or cs, be prepared to bust ass all the time while your liberal arts buddies party all the time. but you dont have to go to grad school to get a job, and they do.

This is 100% right.

I have a friend in criminal justice.....

pisses the hell out of me how much free time he gets while I bust my ass with 20 hours of homework a week plus a 16 credit hour class load, just to graduate on time.

Oregon State University

I'm a Junior in MECOP so I have an expected grad date of Winter term 09. But the bonus is I graduate with 2, 6 month internships under my belt.

What about internet & computer systems , or Business with computer systems ?

I dont think i would be good at an electronic engineering course, those circuits just blank me. Im on a course on it at the moment, i find that a little hard but i enjoy it. This course is at normal school, im just wondering what i can do at uni.

I have this choice:

# Communications and Computer Systems BEng or MEng (Hons)
# Computer Science BSc (Hons)
# Computer Systems with Business Studies BSc (Hons)
# Computer Systems with Psychology BSc (Hons)
# Electronic Engineering BEng (Hons) or MEng (Hons)
# Internet Systems and E-Commerce BSc (Hons)
