Ok.. I don't get these things! So, I bought one thinking oh, this will be easy to set up.. No. Do I need an ethernet card and what is the basic set up for these bitches? Everything works on it bar the actual connection, i'm thinking it's something to do with the ethernet cable as there is no other way to connect the router to my computer than this, the ADSL and Power lights flash away brightly and happily..

Mmm, reading that back it's confusin but I don't have the energy to change it

Uhhh..... you will definitely need an ethernet card in the computer(s) you want to connect to your router. There should be a short wire running from your cable modem to the "WAN" port on your router, than use one of the open ports on the router to run one ethernet cable to your computer.

Im not entirely sure how/where you are lost and confused but ill post back if you still need help.

I think you'll need to get into the router itself and check a few things. I have a linksys but it's older than yours. Try going to 192.168.1.1 in IE. the username should be: admin and the password: Linksys
Check that DHCP is enabled and the range is large enough to lease addresses to however many machines you're going to connect.

I have Comcast cable which is machine specific. Meaning, they want you to pay more to have multiple internet connections. (Those bastiches) So what I had to do is what they call the "MAC Address Clone" which essentially copies my registered machines physical address and mirrors it so that Comcast only sees one PC.
That should be under "Advanced" in the router menu.

Ok, thanks guys.. I've done what downy said but I didn't get a log in screen up so I'm assuming I'm gonna need to go out and get an ethernet card because the router isn't even talking to the computer. Lewjik, I have ADSL, LAN 1 and the power cable plugged in so I don't think there's a problem there...

Goto http://192.168.0.1 for router configuration

As far as DSL goes, you need to register your routers MAC address with your ISP (at least we do here)

You can find the MAC address for your router in the router configuration as well.

EDIT: Didn't you have your computer online BEFORE you got the router? If you were able to access the internet before you bought the router, then your computer already has an ethernet card.

I'm sure our routers have slight differences so JT may be correct in the 192.168.0.1 address. To be sure, once you have the router connected to your pc, do an ipconfig in a comand prompt. That should tell you what IP to type into your browser to connect to the router (you want the gateway address). I changed mine to 192.168.1.101 just for fun.

Well 192.168.1.1 is what it said in the Router manual, i've tried re-installing the TCP/IP protocol as well to no avail, i found the ethernet card built into my modem and have connected it up but it's still not connecting, any other ideas?

EDIT: Could it have anything to do with still having my old modem installed?
