Ok, just got an ATI Radeon 9800 for xmas, installed it, and set graphics to high, game lagged AWFUL so I put it on medium, and heres what I got:

What setting do I have wrong? And shouldn't the 9800 be able to handle High graphics? Oh, system is a P4 2.8, 768-ish of ram. So what did I overlook?

you could try reinstalling the drivers... which version are you using?
there is an ati driver uninstall utility on the ATI website...
also the 9800 should run on med... turn off dynamic shadows and
in the audio control panel in game... turn off VOIP and EAX sound...
that can increase your fps...

more ram would help also...      CB

ok, just to let you know, the 9800 PRO isnt capable of playing the game at HIGH.
i had one and just upgraded to x850XT.  i WAS running an athlon XP 2400, 1 gig of kinston value ram, and that 9800 pro.  i could only go to medium at 1600X1200 resolution.  even my new comp with the x850XT cant run the game at all high with 1600X1200 resolution.

so what i have to say to you is, its not going to run at HIGH unless you do some serious overclocking.

If the link isnt working, it was from Night Flight, where the ground was showing a white checkerd board over the whole area

Alright, I set everything to lowest possible and still same problem. I was running on ATI Radeon 9250 (yes i know it's not supported but it worked if you turn agp to 4x only). I since set it back to normal 8x. Still no clue what is causing this. Tempted to put 9250 back in.

Sounds like drivers then.  Get the omega drivers.

download ATI Tool and run some tests. What you are getting are artifacts. My 800 pro couldn't run bf2 no matter what so I returned it and got a BFG 6800gt oc.

Download ATI Tooland scan for artifacts atdefault settings...let it scan  for awhile.....if the clock keeps resetting you are getting artifacts with the default settings which means the card won't work....like I said

people gotta stop saying same shit other people said "upgrade the drivers"

STFU noobs ! seriously do you even have any idea what you are saying?

the poster clearly has outdated computer without enough juice to run the game at HIGH setting, yet there are 10 people saying "update the driver"

NO you won't be able to run game at HIGH settings with 9800 and even if you get some good vid cards, you need at least 1gig of ddr400 ram to run game at HIGH without severe lags
