I just upgraded my x1900xtx for a 8800 GTX.
I formatted the HDD and installed the latest Nvidia drivers for the card.
So i tried 3Mark05 and only got a score of 12800,   thats about the same as my x1900TX with 12700.
I know the 8800TX is a bit overkill for my amd64 3700+ clocked to 2700 MHz,  but still i was hoping to see at least some kind of improvement.
Also when playing BF2 sometimes my fps falls to 50 or so,  when its 100 constant most of the times.
So something is not right but what,   drivers?,  or just my system bottle necking?.

BTW:  does anybody know if there's a Rivatuner update for the G80 core?.

First of all, I hate you.
Second, it's most likely drivers, and maybe your processor, just a little bit.

Do you have 1 or 2 gigs of ram?

most probs the drivers and dx

as the 8800 is dx10 and xp is dx9 your not really gonna get the best performance out of the card as it was built on the architecture of dx10

so unless you upgrade 2 vista some time soon you have just blown your cash on a card that u cant use at maximum capabilities

and yes it may also be the drivers as its fairly new

2gb corsairs,  but with the ATI i didn't had framedrops.
But there are good things though,  it now runs on 16xAAxQ, and 16xAF,  on 1600x1200,  Looks pretty nice .
I will try different drivers tomorrow,   and if that doesn't help i quess i have to wait till february,  i will bye a C2D E6600 and some dominator Ram by then.
That will fix it

I have a Be quiet 520 watt with 32A on 12V,  should be good enough,  i saw an article somewhere that tested how many watts the complete system used,  they compared a x1900xtx against the 8800GTX,  and the gtx only pulled 13 more watts out of the PSU,  so thats not a big difference.
I tested while playing games, and all Voltage reading where good.

Something is bottlenecking your video card. It's probably a combination of your CPU and early drivers. I have a 3500+ and I wouldn't dream of trying to run a G80, even if I had PCI-e.

What kind of memory? DDR? DDR2? How fast? What latency?

Hey,

newbie is right. some site did a test on the 8800 with amd cpus and the slower ones are bottlenecking the card.

http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/gef … u_scaling/

even with the 5000+ athlons it's bottlenecking the performance somewhat.

Agreed, hate being yet another one to say it but really intel is where it's at these day's.  Besides, it stands to reason to run the best GPU in the world, you need a pretty top notch CPU, ram blah blah to go with it, otherwise your shooting yourself in the foot.  Still we are not all made of money lol, I'd of just took the GTS tbh though, my thinkin is a GTS will run all games for the upcoming year on high rather well, by the time it begins to really strugle, chuck another in for sli and I would bet by then you could get a gts for like £150.  ANYWAY your in this position, so all I can suggest is make sure you have all the latest drivers etc like the gentlemen above have stated, if no dice then hurry those upgrades in, I am confident when they go in there should be a marked improvement.

I maintain 170+ with that card.. somethings up.

And jimmanycricket

Code:

First, off the guy a few posts above me is right.  Trying using it on vista...  Secondly, try running 3Dmark06.  Grades the hardware using different methods.  I promise your ATI card will be left in the dust.

I dont see why you upgraded.
May I ask what the 8800 offers that the x1900 cant provide?
Were the 90FPS you were already getting not good enough?
It is your money, but in my opinion it wasnt a very smart purchase.

It is a noticeable difference in the game especially during arty strikes and such, that's why.

What you hit 70FPS in an Arty strike? lol
My x800GTO doesnt lag period. Consistent 67FPS, so dont tell me a x1900 would lag in an arty strike.

Pretty graphics FTW. Can your card play on all high 99FPS with 16X AA? Don't think so.
