I am not one who cares to much for high-resolutions, since I normally play at an enjoyable 1027x768 so I do not think I will need an extremely high-end card but I would like to play on High with a good frame rate (60+) and with no struggle.

My current setup is:

- AMD Athlon: 64 x2 Dual Core Processor 3800+
- 2 sticks of 1026mb of Crucial RAM = 2gig total
- AliveSata2-GLAN mobo which is PCI-E / no sli
- 460 watt psu
- I have one fan sucking at the front, blowing on side and blowing on back as well as one on the PSU and CPU.

What do you think would be a good card to match my requests as well as system?

I'd say a 7800GS would play at those settings.  Your mobo is not SLI-compatible, no?  Then that would not allow much future expandability.

I was thinking of a 7900GT like this:

http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/119500 Do you see any problems with it?
I don't see any.  You might want to ask another person though.

btw, XFX is a great brand.

I have a BFG 7900GT OC and it's a great card.
I run all on high and 4x AA.
I have 2 monitors on it as well, for BF2CC & TS.
I do have a 580 PSU, don't know if it matters yours is a bit less.
My CPU is 2 core Intel 3.4.
Nothing special though, 2 gig ram.

I like the card, never had any problems

You can get an Nvidia 8800GTS for close to that price. If you absolutely can't go higher, I would wait a little bit for the mid-range DX10 cards, or for the current ones to drop in price. If you have to get a video card now, I'd go for the Nvidia 7900GTX.

Wait a few weeks, there will be some price drops not to long away, 8800gtx will be replaced as flagship for nvidia and ofcourse lesser cards based on the 8 series will be released, how about the equiv 8600 (when it comes) should be out soon I would of thought, not everyone who wants vista can pay £300-400 on a dx10 card.  If you want it for christmas then 7900 gtx I would say.

Argh.... Wait Wait Wait. I guess I will have too.

An 8600 would be better then an 7900 right ?

Well there is no technical specifications as of yet, infact I dont even think they have said it will be released, but they always do release the *800 part of the series, with others later on.  But a reasonable guess would be yes it will, I would think it will come in for around £175-£220, and the fact it will be a dx10 card, since if you splurge on that 7900gtx your screwed for vista/dx10 games.  Well I am led to believe so anyways

What. Video. Card. Do. You. Have. Installed. Now.

Because if you're working off of a 6800GT or something, there's no freaking reason to upgrade that. You didn't even tell us if it's a Socket 939 processor or a Socket AM2 one, precluding any guesses as to what kind (DDR/DDR2) of memory you have. There are stickied threads...

Bah.. save up $50 more USD and you can get a smokin 8800 that will run dx 10 games,
You should defiently wait till you can gather just a little bit more money, the jump in performance from all the other cards is huge. Just verify you have the right amount of power (I think you do).

Oh. Well, I don't check sigs on a regular basis, so...

As far as I can recall without looking it up, the 6200TC was never made in an AGP format, so I'm going to venture a guess that you do have PCI-e. Honestly, I'd just get a new rig around the time Crysis/UT2007 are released. That's my ultimate recommendation.

But if you're willing to pay just under $300, this would be the best choice.

What are you talking about? I already said I had a PCI-E in my first post as well as I will be buying from UK sites only.

Thanks anyway

Ge-force 7900 GTO + you can overclock it to GTX speeds easily.

I have the card and it plays BF2 on all high etc. Just got to pay 35 quid extra for the VAT.

Looks like you just edited your post to say PCI-e. And nowhere did I say you had to grab it from newegg. I just assumed you would be capable of looking at a simple product name and finding it locally. The 7950GT 512MB seems to fit your criteria and then some (due to its low price). But just get what you want, dude.

Yeah I edited my post but I did not include PCI-e, that was there from the start. Look at the edit time but I guess that would not help a lot.

I will check into the 7950 prices more indepth, the 5 sites of tried seem to have atleast a £50-100 +

Cool. The 7900's are sweet cards, but that 7950 is a sweet deal right now. Be a pity if you couldn't get it for an equivalent price in the UK. If you aren't in a hurry to get a G80, you could pick up a 79x when their prices are slashed (sometime then the G80's drop).
