Ok, so I've got an Intel 6400. Hooah.

I wanted to overclock, and I can get the CPU to run at 2.867GHz, but after that it doesn't want to boot up.

What it says is that it "...is an improper boot device, please insert the boot device and press any key"

After contemplating on this, it turns out the BIOS doesn't actually register my hdd after 2.867GHz. Is this just an overclocking limit (Stock 2.13GHz) or is this a mobo or hdd problem? or could it be ram? (667MHz)

Any help is appreciated

I have no idea I bought 62 € zalman just to release that there is no option in BIOS to increase fsb or multiplier.

probably a combo of both, move it down slightly to it boots properly then run prime 95 on it. repeat this process till you find a stable pt.

nah, it runs absolutely fine at 2.867GHz. Just wanna go beyond that but can't somehow

probably the max your board/ram can handle. oh well take a look at either a custom bios for your board or one of the dfi boards because they are great for overclocking.

Asus P5LD2. No letters on the end, coz there's so many variants, just P5LD2.

Yes pollux, I have indeed tried that, because the stock voltage is 1.3v, even raised it to 1.45v. No change

If your board supports it, make sure that the PCI & PCI-e bus speeds are locked. I've seen this happen because the board doesn't lock these buses, and as you increase the FSB speed, it takes the other buses out of spec with it. Hard drives don't usually tolerate too much before you start getting errors, and it would seem SATA drives are even less tolerant.

You probably need to run your RAM on a divider, otherwise it's speed is going above what it can handle.

What is your FSB at the moment? Raise your cVore and Northbrdige core if all else fails..

It's because when you over clock the FSB, you are also over clocking every component on the mother board, unless there are locked buses. Set the PCI bus to 66MHz, see if that helps. You can quite easily get data corruption on your hard drive from over clocking, so be warned.

This is the normal bus speed for PCI yeah? I'll give it a go
