This is a really really annoying and fustrating problem it seems like my disc drive literally DISAPPEARS from mu computer I cannot open , it doesn't light up and doesn't show anywhere on my comp that my disc drive exists the only way of fixing it is to restart but like wtf i don't want to restart every time because I can get maybe 1 or 2 times opening it then it fucks up any help?

would be much appreciated thanks

Happen to me a couple of months ago.  Turned out to be a faulty IDE cable.  Might be that for you.

just replace it? i dont think cables are hugely expensive

or, if you have more disk drives, swap the cables around, oooorrrrr slave the disk drive (if possible) from your hdd

IDE cables are extremely cheap.  Something like a buck or two.

check for loose cables
replace IDE cable / swap the power connector with another 1 coming off the PSU
check in device manager for device conflicts
check in control panal - administrative tools for problems
backup your stuff and format the system and reinstall windows

if these fail
replace the drive.. it s 99% defective

oh and i do this for a living (computer repair that is)

Have you got a "sleep" setting turned on under power management settings. If so just turn it off.

i have this problem, for me its the powersuply not having enough power, try unconnecting other things and see if this fixes it, if it does you need a new power supky otherwise try the other suggestions.

I had to edit my registry to fix mine. None of my optical or disk drives would show up but thats prolly just cause Sony is a bunch of fucking retards! I know the standard answer for tech support if "Turn it off & then turn it back on" but that's all they'd tell me for 3 weeks straight & then they had me call someone else to ask them after the 3 weeks!!!
Is anything else showing up? I have an external hard drive that likes to disappear sometimes but it always comes back, I've heard that about alot of Lacie drives though. Has it ever shown up since it ran away? How long has it been gone for if not?
