In the Eagles thread you said you were in the Young Marines, and you make that recruit-worthy mistake?  Lance Corporal DOES come before Corporal in real life.  However it is reversed in Bf2142.  As for the other ranks, assume they were added for the sake of having enough names for all 40 unlocks.

um.. i have like 16,000 points but ~65,000 career. the whole point of the game is to get the badges pins ribbons for extra points.

HAHAHAHHAHAHA! i remember when i first started playing 2142. The ranks were so hard to get, first at 500 then at 900 then at like 15,000. getting an upgrade was like getting a billion bucks.

You rank up faster in 2142, because you get points for awards.

Re-calculate your BF2 score if you got 40-500-1000 per bas-vet-exp.
Ignore the ribbons.

It would mean I get an extra 21,100 points, directly upgrading me to 1st Lt. with 88,055 points.

BF2142 was far too easy to gain ranks (glitching aside)

In BF2 1.0 gaining a rank really did mean something, I can't remember the old requirements but they were insane, as someone has said anyone above a gunnery sergeant was rare and you seemed in awe of that person.

People complain about the 30k gap but that gap is one of the best learning experiences in BF2, or atleast it was for me, it was at that point I started to find my groove and learn how to play better.

Long live the 30k gap.

The amount of unlocks in 2142 meant they felt it necessary to rank you up fast, it pleases the casual player and gives many the sense of instant gratification that keeps them playing for a little while longer. Unfortunately this is at the expense of the more "elite/hardcore" player who finds themselves with a good game, but a mix of little competition and nothing left to achieve. Although Dice/EA can't be blamed for that as the majority of games are currently geared that way, the hardcore market is slowly dying and the expense (for gamers atleast) of profits and media attention.

I would prefer 40 ranks over 200k.

There are enough pins that do actually require skill. But as said, I hope they are planning on raising rank Requirements. 3K per rank is just not fun, I had a night were I ranked up 5 times.

First, please learn to use the spell check option.  Thanks. Sergent has a t in it.  you forgot that completely in your first post, so it makes you look like you are not even trying to spell properly.

BF2 does have some rank issue, you have to double your points at one time.  This is what actually makes you know who has played the game for a while.

From what I hear about 2142, you get rank so quick, it is not worth it.  It has only been out for 2 or 3 months, and there are people who have already got the highest rank.

I think that rank is what makes people keep coming back to BF2.  It is the challenge of the game.

They need some more ranks in 2142 or to increase the time between them cos this is ridiculous, since i got reset a week ago I'm now a Lt col. Silver, 10 rank off Brig. Gen.

I mean.. A week?!?! It would take you at least 6 months to reach General in BF2...
The ranking system in 2142 sucks, I know, but then, the game is geared for a more casual gamer. I mean, some of the ribbons are worth 2000 points! Instant promotion when you get them! And the multiple unlock pins? That has 'rank me up quickly' slapped in big red letters all over it! I give an example. I was round a mates house yesterday, and he WAS a Sergeant Major of the Army when I got there. After bout 2 hours of playing on his soldier, I got him up to Warrant Officer Gold......4 ranks in two hours, its unreal. It was all the silver level badges and high-point ribbons that did it. I like the fact that you get more than just a feeling of achievement in getting a prized ribbon/badge/medal in 2142, but 2000 in one pop is a bit extreme. BF2, IMO, is for the people who dont mind being forced to use only what they have, as opposed to choosing from a toyshop of goodies with which to smite enemies with!

I like the way BF2142 have done it and it would be quite a drag if you needed to at least play 3-4 days before getting a normal rank up to unlock ONE thing. This is on the first ranks to. The last one do take some time imo.

Though now we have those 3-4 Special ranks and why don't people aim for those? Might be fun actually. Also some of the Medals take a damn long time to get. Like Tank Medal 8000 kills with it, same with Gunship Medal 8000 kills which certainly not that easy. Well tank might be somewhat easy but soon everyone will have loller mines so it's not gonna be that fun to play as tank whore.

Also I really love the thing with Carree points to. In BF2 you kill like 40+ people and all you might get is a gold medal and nothing more.

I think we should have some point like 2142 to get a Medals, badges, Ribbons & Pins.  It's the rewards that keep us going!  As long as we have the reward, I don't mid if the Brigadier General is 100,000,000 point.  I will be still very happy to enjoy the game!  Come-on EA new patch plzzz!

I think ranks should be based on other things than just the global score, like KDR, accuracy and stats that actually mean something, not just who plays the most.

i personally love the fact that the badges, ribbons, and now pins actually mean something other than bragging rights. you get rewarded with career points for having some degree of skill.
however, the higher ranks should have more of a gap than 3000 points, especially when you start getting the gold badges @ 1000 pts a piece. i like how you can rank up at a reasonable pace, but i think it's a little too early for that many people to max out their ranks.

Staff Sergeant 50 000
Gunnery Sergeant 75 000
Master Sergeant/First Sergeant 150 000
Master Gunnery sergeant/Sergeant major 250 000

now you talk about real ranks. Personally I think this was the best system. My goal wasnt to reach the higher ranks, imo ranks in bf2 are there for comparison, so you dont care if ranks are harder to get, its the same thing for everyone. Ill never get to 4 star general in bf2, and I dont care, but I care to get a rank good among the community.

Now (well since patch 1,03 which was released fall 2005) ranks are too easy to earn (bf2) and its not realistic. When you look at the scoreboard and there are more seniors than normal soldiers, there is problem.

Oh and about the ranks of 2142, thats a total joke....

How long have you been playing the game?  I'm going to assume you picked it up after the patch that reduced the requirements.  Back then It took 10,000 points to get from Lance Corporal to Corporal, and seeing a Gunnery Sergeant ingame was legendary.
LOL yes they were, I followed them like they were gods.
