I'd recommend Home Premium to most users. Avoid the upgrade version unless you're absolutely strapped for cash. They're just a pain in the ass. Personally, I will be going with either Vista Business or Vista Ultimate, depending on how much WinSAT actually helps.

Unfortunately, I will be paying out of my f*cking ass, either way, as MS never really lowers its prices in a timely fashion.

Untrue, You MIGHT get a 32 bit driver to work, thats a big if, if you cant find a 64 bit one. But you will not be able to use a 64 bit driver for 32. Also there are quite a few games that still will not work with 64bit windows XP and probably Vista also.

I said in my post in the beginning, Vista WILL INCLUDE the 32 and 64 bit versions on the SAME disc, thus you will NOT have to buy another copy of vista. You just switch when theres more support for it.

I knew that...
No really, I just didn't word it right. Just like the older Windows emulate 16-bit.
You don't get as great performance as it has to run a virtual machine within the 64-bit instructions (yeah bitch about my terminology again, it sounds wrong to me too.)

And thanks for clearing up the whole 64-bit+32-bit coming in the same package. I was curious what happened to "64-bit Edition". Of course logically now, it is on the same disc, I thought Microsoft had a plan to screw us one more time

That's a very big if, it's gargantuan in fact - 32bit drivers WILL NOT work on 64bit Vista, from what I've read. A 32bit XP driver might work on 32bit Vista.

The way Vista is being released...its not that much to do with your hardware its more about what you want to do with it....

Uhggggg.  How many times does it have to be said.  There will not be a DX10 for XP.  Not now, nor with any XP service pack.

I'm on your side Dung, but I wouldn't go quite as far as you. I think it pretty safe to say that there will not be an XP DX10 anytime soon. It's not theoretically impossible for there to be a DX10 for XP. It's just very very very unlikely.

If you are going onto the 64bit route here are a few pointers:

Is your cpu 64bit?
How much memory do you have?  64bit can support more than 32 bit.
Does your hardware meet the minimum requirements?
To use DX10 you need a DX10 card.
