william wallace doesn't come close to gengis khan.

one led a puny rebellion on a puny section of a puny island.

one conquered the largest empire to have ever existed.

Ouff, I'm pressed between picking Genghis Khan and Alexander the Great. They are definitely the two best ones up there.

I'll take Alexander because of my love for the Roman army.

"William Wallace" ffs u do realise braveheart might as well be a work of fiction. He was a god awful battlefield commander. Only good as a figure head, I could think of thousands of better generals who just because they haven't been in a hollywood blockbuster aren't as well known. pppffffftttt idiot.

EDIT: He wasnt a knight until he made his name, what the film fails to mention was he was a cattle rustling outlaw, who fled to France for years when he was wanted, and that french princess who he shags wasnt even born until after he died!!

Well in different cultures its spelled differently, the correct Macedonian Greek way of spelling it is Ἀλέξανδρος, so different cultures have different ways of spelling it so Ill spell it any fucking way I want to spell it. And if u gonna complain don't post anything at all.

Possibly a biased statement coming from an English citizen about a man who attacked England...  And NEVER relate a film to actual history.  The fact of the matter is he led a successful rebellion against your country.  I'm sorry.  It happened centuries ago.  The world hasn't changed much because of it, but it happened.  Don't play it down because it makes your patriotism suffer.

Britain is the greatest power to have ever existed. Even the "mighty" United States today is nowhere near as powerful and influential as Britain was at the height of its power.

Although the film ranks as one of the best, most of what this guy says is true.

Anyhoo my vote goes to Hannibal, his tactics were second to absolutely none.  Until he went mad and lost it and 'apparently killed himself.

Ghengis Kahn.

The only reason his conquest ended is because he became ill, correct?

I hope this can expand more. It's better than having a "Greatest General Ever" thread since most people would go with Rommel, Patton, etc.

and a bunch of stuff lifted from wikipedia
i should have clarified it as the largest contiguous empire.

britain is still a puny island, nothing from wikipedia can change that.

Its not about Wikipedia its a world known FACT, and anyone who denies it is just ignorant.

Just like anyone who denies the fact that the USA is the biggest 'current superpower' is ignorant.

Respect history.
