I have to buy new motor/trans mounts soon so Im looking at some cusco mounts..

Yeah I need to try Karting... those things are damn quick...

There is a kid who always brings one out to the autox I got to, and even with a driver who doesn't even have a license yet it manages to set fastest time by a bit.

Then again a tiny autox course is like a fucking race track to that thing its so small.

I'm a car guy.

Don't race, partially because my car is hopeless, and partially because I don't have enough money. lol.

I drive a 96 Cavalier, 2.2L. 125 horse at the crank, and a sprint to 60 just shy of 9 seconds. All I have put into it are a new set of rims, set of Kuhmo tires, and an Air Hog hi-flow filter. Besides decent handling, its nothing special.

I tried to start up something like this before, (like a car guy thread) here. But that failed. Maybe this will be the rebirth?

give it a try man, but unles you have ALOT of money that sport is definitly a no no.
the cart that i got to drive (which i only got to drive because i worked there) had a $16,000 chassis, a $7000 motor that some big cart guy used in his cart in the previous season. those are just two components, unless you are sponsored it is extremely unlikey you will get far in the sport. unless like i said you have unlimited amounts of money......shit the C12 racing fuel most of them use is like $8 a fucking gallon.
if you do decide to get into it, look into a used yamaha/birel setup. for about $2500 youll go 80 mph 3/4 an inch off the ground.

Yeah well Karts are still cheaper to competitively race then cars...

My uncle keeps telling me how I need to pick it up...He says he runs fairly competitive with ~$5k kart, not too bad..
I REALy want to see how competitive I am in my car...Its hard to tell because the local races don't have classes so I racing Z06s, kit cars, last time I raced a viper (and beat him god love ritch people with more money then skill)

You should look up some local car clubs and see if anyone hosts auto crosses anywhere near you..
Its perfect for you situation...If your car can put up with being rev through its full RPM range you should be fine, and since its just cones there not really anything to hit.
Its like $30-$60 per event, and since they are typicaly such technical courses it puts much more emphasis on driver then car. Like I said last time I beat that guy in his viper, I also beat all 3 350z's that were there and a turbo G35...The time before that I got beat by a Toyota Solara (that shit was embarrassing...)
Point is you car doesn't matter, Go for it! Hell one lady comes out with an early 90's subaru legacy station wagon with a child seat still strapped in the back...

Check here:

Also run a google on "Chicago atuox" or "Chicago soloII" (also try it with solo 2)
There seems to be quite a bit in your area...
