I guess Microsoft better stop overcharging for its buggy operating systems, huh.

The whole activation scheme is absolutely ludicrous anyhow. Nothing in the world of computing pisses me off more than having to (with XP) call Microsoft and monkey around with some Indian guy who can barely speak English to re-up my activation because I've reinstalled Windows on the same PC, and it thinks it's on too many PC's. Sitting there, wasting my time spouting off a ludicrous amount of numbers into voice recog is more aggravating than the whole "press one for" runaround scheme.

If you're lucky, you'll get a guy who can't speak English, but gives you your numbers faster than you can sit there reading it off to the automated system. If you're not lucky, you'll sit there for fifteen minutes trying to determine if he wants you to give him the numbers or if he's trying to ask you if you're ready to receive them.

Vista is gai atm any way there isnt much software that works with it..

I'm pretty happy with XP (I use it only for playing BF2), the rest is up to my trusty ubuntu . But I'll try that out to see if it really works. Good find unnamednewbie13, +1 for you.

This "hack" only works on the business versions of vista and only lasts for 180 days because this only works by setting us a stand alone activation server that is separate from Microsoft's own servers. After 180 days the server has to contact Microsoft to renew its key listings so in the end it really doesn't work that well. This really isn't a hack at all but a workaround that doesn't last long enough to be any use. You still have to contact Microsoft's activation servers to activate the Home versions and the Ultimate editions.
