Setup:
Intel 845MB/1.8ghz
1gb RAM
TB Santa Cruz
GForce 7800GS/256mb
2ea Fujitsu 20gb HDs

Installed SW: BF2 ver1.41 w/ SF expansion.

Problem only occurs during Multi-Player.
Single-player never a problem. Runs fine at medium or low settings.
Using a Cable connection and in-game settings are appropriate.
Able to Start, Log in, Join Server.
At best, I get about 15-20 minutes into a game and the screen and sound freezes. I'm left with no option but to do a hard shut-down and re-start of the PC.
At worst, I crash to Desktop as soon as Client Data is verified.

The other night a friend was hosting and I was not the only one attempting to connect that experienced the same thing. (We were on Teamspeak at the time, and were crashing to desktop.)

Any ideas?

I love BF2 in SP, but if I can't get this solved I'll trash it and go back to CoD!!

Any help would be appreciated!

Try re-installing graphics card drivers, and already look @ google?

Yes, I'm behind a router and a firewall. TCP and UDP ports were properly assigned, so that sgouldn't have been a problem.
It's possible I corrupted a file or two during install. I got to thinking the install sequence may have been an issue.
Originally, I installed as Follows: BF2/v1.4 patch/v1.41patch, then added SF Expansion/re-patched to v1.41.

I've uninstalled BF2 and SF for now.
Will re-install as follows: BF2/SF Expansion/v1.41 patch.
Functional Checks will again be made at each level of installation to narrow it down further (hopefully).

Already uninstalled all sound and video drivers, physically removed/re-installed sound and graphics cards, and re-installed most current drivers for each. Re-check of system has not revealed any problems with CoD, Il-2 FB thru PF & addons, Oblivion, or 3DMax.

RL intervenes, but re-install of BF2 starts tomorrow. I'll post additional if any further problems.

Happens to me every once in awhile, since 1.41 I've been gettin CTD probs when I use my grappling hook alot. Ctrl+Alt+Delete, find "BF2" in the processes & shut it down when you freeze up like that, it's the only thing I can do sometimes short of doing the hard reboot like you said. I know it doesn't help with the crashing but maybe it'll help when you do crash, sorry I don't know more about puters.

This happened to me on all AF servers.  Ended up being a bad sound driver.  Arty would go off and CRASH.
