Ever since I got my new computer, I've been able to get some awesome in-game BF2 videos with really high quality details using fraps. These files turn out to be 1GB monsters which look great, but whenever I run them through Windows Movie Maker they turn to crap (even with high quality settings).

Particularly, in-game text just craps out, and all the detail in the video is lost to a blurry mess. I was wondering what you guys would suggest to use to get much better looking videos so that I can share them with the world. I'm not too concerned with the final file size, but there definatelly needs to be some compression.

I tried the Divx route, but for some reason it won't read the .avi files that Fraps captures so that doesn't seem to work. I'd like to keep things simple too, no Adobe Premiere software or anything like that. Any suggestions?

Well, I wrote a really good guide on how to do this for the BF2142 media section, but that whole forum got pwnt. I'm also too lazy to retype it all, so I'll give you the gist of it:

Get VirtualDub (it's free) and open the video file with it. Do "Video" -> "Compression" and pick XviD. Click the configure button and select a quality setting of 2 or 3. You can also resize via "Video" -> "Filters" and adding the resize filter.

Then just do File -> Save as AVI and you're set.

Sorry to revive a really old thread, but this is basically what I need. I got virtualdub and opened my file in it, but I don't see xvid as one of the compression options. This beast came out to 44.1 Gb uncompressed, could that be the problem?

A very good program to use is RAD Video Tools. Best of all, it's free.

Yes, buy a better computer.

Or, just turn down your Video settings to all low, if they aren't already.

theres no getting around it... well bsides outputting to tv and recording it on the tv maybe?
you just need a reallly good computer.

people that dont know about making videos really dont realize the pain alot of people go through to make videos><  theres the laggy fps, huge disk space usage... and then theres editing it all together which can take forever depending on how much footage you have.  But in the end its worth it =]

turn your fps down on fraps

depending where you are it shud be PAL (25fps) or if your America or anywhere else it shud be NTSC (29.97fps)

but in fraps just set it at 30

you very rarely have any video that is recorded higher than 30 fps coz thats how you get problems

also thats for 1 part

try compression i.e VirtualDub either use XviD or DivX

as for RAD Game tools

use that afterwards as it converts the files into .bik qhich are smalled but people need that to be installed to work

it is a good tool though

edit: and about the lag, if u havnt got a dual core or a 64 or a c2d, so basically a crappy 32 bit processor sorry bro its gonna be laggy as fuck so if you want to solve that problem gonna have to upgrade your CPU to either 1 of the 3 i mentioned
