French Alps episode [~42 minutes] of the tv show "Man vs Wild." Host Bear Grylls strands himself in the mountains via airdrop and has to find his way out with only his knife, water bottle, lighter, and parachute.

Yeah, this show is awesome.  There's another show a lot like it called Survivorman.

You do realise he has a very large camera crew with him don't you?

Still, I'll give it a watch, I'll report back later.

I didn't like this show much.  Being a bit of an outdoors kind of guy I know a bit about survival in the wild (or at least I like to think so.)  Every time this guy breaks the first rule of being lost: Don't move.  Provided you're not in a combat zone and you have the ability to get food / water, you will be found (unless you're in an episode of Lost) by the rescue team.  I watched it once out of curiosity and the episode I saw was about something in Alaska (I missed the beginning).

But ok, let's say that he needs to move somewhere else and / or needs to look for help because nobody is coming.  He did do OK for the most part.  I have to give him credit for eating a fish he had just pulled out of a river with his hands.  He just took a big ol' bite out of it's side and chowed down.  But, alas, with all reality shows it's rigged and not at all what they make it seem to be.  The fish he caught was obviously previously caught and pretty much tossed to him from just outside the camera angle.  Later he came upon an abandoned lodge.  (Hey look a building, with a roof, and shelter and stuff!  OK, let's keep moving, no reason to try to stay here where it's safe!)  He wondered down to the dock on the river he had been following and lo and behold there's a boat!  I mean, we know that the structure is collapsing from abandonment and decay, but this little dingy still has bright red paint on the trim.  The only thing they did to make it look like it had been there was throw some fresh sod on top of it.

Please note that I'm not flaming the show or its fans.  It's just not my taste, simply because there is never much reality in reality shows.  Also, since I said all this and you guys seem to thinks it teh kewlest, I'll watch the 45 min video after my finals are over.

there's obviously a camera crew, and the show is obviously not completely real. that's not the point.

it's good entertainment watching a guy catch and eat snakes with his bare hands, or jumping into a frozen lake just to show you what happens.

let's appreciate it for what it is, and not nitpick over whether the boat was put there by the crew.

Indeed I apologise for any doubts.

That guy makes me proud to be British.

+1 to you.

That show is pretty cool, but I think Survivorman is much better. Les Stroud goes a week by himself with all his own camera gear, which to me is much more impressive. Besides, Stroud ate a live scorpion one time on one of the desert episodes.........sweeeeeeeeeeeeet.

Yea but "Les Stroud" firstly doesn't have a cool name like "Bear" and second isn't British so isn't truly hardcore.
