Out of curiousity :

Ages ago, someone posted link to all sound files out of BF2.
Did anyone else notice - DEMOTED sound effect file ?

Know several things got taken out of game but anybody know any more info ?
How was this intended to be used ?

If you had a certain number of TKs .. .. ... lose rank ?
Pilots would likely be up in arms.
Guess like negative karma of yesteryear it would have been abused.

You can end a round with a negative score. If you do it enough, you'll get demoted. It's rare but possible.

I had a friend demoted from sgt back to corporal for having 30 or more negative team points IAR-  he was playing on his "nuisance" account, the one he uses to go have fun being totally irresponsible, n00bish, and generaly unbearable to other players.  It never happened again, and even though that account has more teamkills and damages than team points(lol) he still holds gunnery sgt.

This was, however, before patch 1.3 if I remember correctly.

edit-  Allthough I could confirm his demotion very clearly through viewing his stats, I was not there to hear or see any ingame sounds or effects denoting the demoting.  For all I know, he didn't have 30 or more negative points, but I can attest to his being a lower rank than he was a day before.

Actually, the demoted files are when you get demoted as a commander - at least that's what it does in my game ^^

They are for ingame taunts, which seem to somewhat work, but are undocumented, even through EA as far as I know.

The way it seems to work for myself and clanmates is that after you kill an enemy, you simply "spot" their corpse as if you were alerting your team to an enemy presence.  In our experience, it is the only method that consistantly works, what we don't know is whether you have to kill someone a set # of times before it works, or perhaps you have to make them a favorite victim to make it work.  The only thing we do know is that 4/10 spotting dead enemies causes one of three laughs to emit from the victorious soldier.

Sounds very creepy when you hear someone laugh from a ways away.. IDK.. just creepy.

If you find out any conclusive info on the taunts, please let us all know.  I know personally, my clan tried to crack it, with only limited success, for about a week.

That, and the trick to parachutes

Getting negative points in a round (as in having -30 global, not just -30 teamwork) will not subtract from your overall stats score. I've gone on many a TK spree and my score stayed the same.

My theory is this:

You have 300,000 points (this is all just theory) and you're number 51 on the leaderboard. You medic whore for a few days and enter the Top 50, and *Drumroll* you're a 4 star General. Then WhoryMcMedicWhore medic whores even more for even more days, and usurps your position as 50 on the leaderboard, pushing you down to 51. I'd imagine that you'd then be demoted to a 3 star Lieutenant General.

I never knew that with negative score you could be demoted..ive alway tho it was when you were General of the corps thingies and you get demoted for some 1 else to have it.

can't remember the title on his post, but a dude once complained about being demoted. he had just got some promotion score and ended up with eg. 8002 global points. then in his first game after the promotion, he started up with a couple of tK's bringing him back under 8000 global points, and he got demoted...

negative score doesnt count towards your global points..

ever noticed how when you get negative score and them come back to the server, those negative points are gone and you have 0 again?

so that guy the "i_invented_bf2" is talking about, is plainly bullshitting.

very close. but you cannot get demoted as a four star general. the demotion was for Sergeant Major of the Corps, the highest rank of pre-1.2. if you were the top sergeant major in the leaderboards at the beginning of a month, you received the rank SMOTC, and you kept that rank until the end of the month, when the SMOTC is given again to the highest player. if you stay on top, you keep the rank. but if someone passes you up during your month as SMOTC and remains ahead of you on promotion day, the first of the month, that guy takes your rank and you get demoted. as said before, negative points do not affect your global score, it only shows in the round, and you cannot get demoted this way. mmkuy?
