Hang on, who said he has a motherboard that supports Conroe?

What model number is it? perhaps we can get which version chipset you have and tell you if your mobo supports Core2Duo

So is a intel pentium d 820 duel core anygood to play bf2?

this is what ill be getting to play bf2 on:

intel pentium d 820 duel core processor (2.8ghz 2x1mb L2 cache 800mhz FSB)

1gb of RAM 2x512mb Necc duel channel ddr2 533mhz sdram

256mb Nvidia gefoce 7300LE turbocache

80gb hd sata 3.0gb/s

what setting would i be able to run bf2 on with that?

That will do just fine. What's going to hold you back is the 512MB of memory, and the fact that the video cards are only TurboCache (which is shite)

im upgrading to 1gb of ram im not keeping the 512mb and is that video card good enough for medium settings?

i would go for a 7600GS or GT and the conroe not only becuase its better but because...

(2.8ghz 2x1mb L2 cache 800mhz FSB)
conroe has 1066FSB

EDIT: anything that says turbocache is bad (shares memory with rest of computer?<maybe, someone correct me >)

Turbo cache share's system memory and is not very good at running 3d games.....withthe rest of the rig you should be able to run on Medium at a res of 800 x 600  with AA and AF turned off if youi can afford a seperate graphics card. 7300 7600 you can up the resolution to 1024 x 768 maybe higher

FSB means nothing to conroe. Conroe performance aren't based on FSB, but rather the chip design.

Dude, don't get a dell, they use the cheapest materials to make their parts which dies faster. GET A FUCKING CUSTOM, Don't know how to build one? well ask some of your friends to, or better yet, learn.

amen

also the rig you posted sucks. try to get at least a E6300 with 2GB ram, a gf7600 (minimum)

I've had a run through that system on Dell's website and TBH it blows goats. For what it is going to cost you you would get a much better system by going custom build plus you'll learn lots about PCs into the bargain.

Have you ever played with legos? If you have, then building a computer is just like it, read the manuals.

Dell are a bit funny with stuff like that. Sometimes they ship units with propriety motherboards with certain bits left off to cut down on costs. With an integrated graphics card there is no guarantee that the motherboard would have a PCI-E slot on it in which to install an alternative card.

Putting together a PC is much easier than it sounds as these days most components are true plug and play and the majority of configuring is done for you. It really is just like putting lego together.

With my 7600 GS I can run Bf2 on 1680 x 1050 on 99fps.

If you can follow instructions, you can build a computer.

It's just a big jigsaw puzzle, with less pieces.

If you buy a prebuilt system, you will be spending £150 or $295 for someone to build it.
Just think what can upgrade for that much money.

Scrap the DDR ram and get DDR2, cheaper nowadays.
