Holocaust denial is one of those quaint-at-best, pathetic-at-worst fringe views that most rational beings view with a mixture of contempt and pity. Holocaust deniers (or "revisionists" as they like to delude themselves) believe that everything, from video footage of Auschwitz survivors to the ruins of the compounds everywhere from Breslau to Berlin, was either staged or faked. These are the same ignorant bigots who masturbate while reading passages from Mein Kampf and The Protocols of the Elders of Zion while spewing filth about the "Jewish conspiracy" to control every aspect of modern life from our financial institutions to our government.

The Holocaust is widely regarded as the reason Israel was set up so quickly. Iran hates Israel and is therefore looking for evidence to descredit the Holocaust and consequently the state of Israel. They are not denying the Holocaust happened, merely debating the extent to which it happened. Whilst you'd be a fool to deny it, from an Arab perspective you'd have a lot to gain from investigating it. What happened in the Holocaust was horrendous but was not accurately recorded in history books hence the ongoing debate. Furthmore, if this had been held pretty much anywhere other than Iran, the delegates would have all been arrested, and there's me thinking the west were leading in freedom of speach!
