A good way to practice I'd say is to shoot AT rockets at helis. It'll help you guide ahead of the moving helis.

As for actual TV missiles, don't always click as much as possible. It tends to make it go through the helicopter and will probably make you overshoot the heli. Just be careful when it comes really close.

Since we are talking about hitboxes.....and since the definition of 1337 chopper gunning seems to be downing other attack helos........DO NOT EVER try to put a TV missile straight through the cockpit of the enemy helo.  You are nearly guaranteed that the missile WILL glitch right through the damn thing.  The head-on cockpit of helos seem to be damn near invincible, or shall I say "non existant" in terms of the "hit box."  Always aims for the mid-fuselage or tail........you will VASTLY improve your downage (yeah, I'm sure that's a word...uh...probably) of enemy helos.

This inevitably leads us to a tactic for avoiding being TV missiled by enemy helos.  Most pilots seems to think that if they go into some crazy convulsion of flips they will be fine.  The fact of the matter is, by exposing anything OTHER than the "head on" view of their cockpit, they are making themselves MORE suceptible to being owned.

So, this CAN lead one to believe that simply facing dead on at their opponent after they launch a TV missile is preferrable.  Well, not necessarily.  Movement IS good....it means the enemy gunner has to work harder to adjust his/her (lets be honest, its HIS) missile.....BUT you DO NOT want to expose a LARGER hitbox to your enemy in an attempt to confuse him/her (him).

I've personally found that the best way to avoid being hit by a TV missile (as a pilot) is to do barrel rolls (rolling the chopper to one side or the other) while FACING your enemy dead on.  This gives them the smallest possible profile/hitbox AND keeps you a moving target.

I know I deviated a bit, but hopefully the info helps anyhow.

If they are moving away fast hit slightly behind the choppers last position, aim for the tail for regular shots, aim for the bottom half of the heli in frontal shots.

I've also found that idling down really screws up the hitbox.  Everyone always wants to gas it when they evade, but idling down may actually do you wonders.

Hey all,

I would like to become a better gunner. When you use TV missiles, do you constantly click the target to make sure you hit? Also, is there a way to spot the players in the stingers like you can on a bombing run with a jet?

Thanks in advance.

1 settings, most important. be sure u are lag free with max view, terain on high and geometry on high to start with. this gives u a far better view. then offcourse u need a good gaming rig aswell

2 have a ping below 80

3 obviously u need a good pilot or do it solo. there lots of solo video's from u can learn the trick

4 timing, its all in timing. if the enemy chopper is spinning like a madman u wont hit it. wait til the right moment.

5 how to hit or shoot the missle is differend for everyone, u going to need alot of practice thats for sure but u going to have to do it yourself.

i always lead my target, if chopper is moving left right on screen i shoot infront it on the left side and keep clicking towards the nose. on the last seccond il click on the chopper it self. if it doesent make any sudden moves u have a hit.

as a gunner its importand never to hit a target with the mini gun when it doesent know u are there! u wil only alert them. the TV missle is a 1 hit kill so use it

make sure u are in same team with the pilot and talk to him over VOIP or teamspeak. let him know what u see.

but u going to have to do it yourself, finding a class pilot wil be hard enough so start soloing on a empty server u wil get the feeling fast enough
