We use the filter on our server, and it keeps immature people out of our server. No one cares if you yell out fuck while your playing, but why take the time out to type it, instead of playing? Problem is, no one types just "fuck I got killed". They type insults or start to talk about peoples families and what not. That is why we have it on. Remember just because it's rated teen doesn't mean that kids are not playing. I've ran across kids as young as 7 while playing. Point is, if you can't control yourself enough not to type out your swearing in a server someone else pays for, you deserve to be kicked. You don't go to grandmas house and start saying "fuck grandma what the fuck bitch, stupid fucking tank killed me." Everyone swears, but to actually take the time out to type it is lame. If you get killed, and are ticked off, swear out loud and then move on and keep playing. Remember, your in someone elses house while playing on their server.
So just so I understand...... It's ok to yell "fuck you asshole," but if you type those words it is offensive?  So if that 7 yr old was in your squad, yelling "fuck" is ok, but typing it is wrong?  If you do not have a mic, you can't swear, but if you do, swear all you want?  Do you know how stupid that sounds?

Your missing my point. I never said yell it in voip. Say it out loud to yourself all you want. I have no problem with swearing, I have a problem with immature people just flaming each other, while playing on my server. I would say 98% of the people kicked on our server for swearing, are sitting there flaming someone for being a "fucking noob." In which case my regular server visitors, and I do not want to see that while we are playing, and having fun. It sounds very logical to me, it's called respect, and common courtesy. We do not tolerate this such behavior, and we have a better game for it.

I'm 18 and never smack talk.  I guess it's a combination of being too lazy to type stuff and assuming no one will read it anyways.  I myself rarely ever read anything that anyone says in the chat box so people can smack talk me all they want and I would never know.

Surely as BF2 is a 12 rated game (or is it 15?) the language should be suited to that age group.

Therefore I can accept moderate swearing in games for the right reasons, but not a continual barrage or swearing from two people flaming each other.

You wouldn't have to put up with it on the street or in a 12 rated movie so why in a game?

This game is freaking 16+ no kids should be playing thus swearing is allowed.

I swear in squad tell.

I got kicked for saying "Noob tubers incoming"
or "Stupid fucking tank we're pinned down"
bla bla bla

Me: Damn Artly.
Admin: No swearing
Me: Clicks on Sorry function and soldier says "Damn, I'm sorry."
Whenever I hit the Sorry function my guy just says Sorry, chief.  Any ideas why?  Maybe if I emphasize that I'm sorry I won't get punished by every flippin' moron on the Battlefield...

Well, here is my stance. I think filtered servers are a good thing (aside from the improper kicks from using words which contain the wrong combination of letters), but not for protecting the children. Heck, if your honest with yourself you have to admit that the children are the ones most likly to be doing the swearing.

The reason that I think they are a good thing is while I dont mind a comment here and there, when you get those people who just can not stop swearing or express themselves in any way without it its just very annoing and ruins my fun playing the game. I play to have fun, if people are talking, I'll chat a few lines between kills/while dead/after respawning. And to me seeing nothing but profanities from 16 year olds constantly scrolling across my screen just isnt a conversation that I want to see going on. While I said eairler that I dont mind mild profanity from people, I still support a total filter of it as its just not worth the hassle of, "Hey, he was swearing more than me, why dont you tell him to stop instead!!!!"

Thats my reason anyways. I dont want to protect the kids from the "bad language" that they themselves more than likly use every day, I just dont want it to be on my screen for me to read. Its nice to talk with people who are able to convey their thoughts with more than the same 5 words being used again and again.

It seems like a waste of time to cencor language on a server for a game which depicts war.

People shouldn't be encouraged to swear but if you find it offensive then MAN are you playing the wrong sorts of games, best scoot down the old folks chess club or something.

People who absolutly need a no swearing server can host their own.

*edit*

The ultimate solution is to have a client side filter which any user can turn on to remove text based swearing, then turn off voice comms.  But thats usualy not enough for people who campaign against swearing/violence/gore etc, its never enough theres a solution, they have to force their morals on everyone else and make sure no one is doing it full stop.
