Not that I can see, but thank you for giving me better prices on the X2 4200+, I want that for Christmas and the cheapest I found was $190.  Is that 65W version the same as the regular thing?

Edit: Shoot, I was looking for the Socket 939 version.

i think so.

its voltage is 1.2-1/25 compared to 1.3-35 on the regular.

which is four dollars less. but they've apparently started offering it w/rainbow six vegas (65w) free. so yeah.

Edit:

939 +4400 for 190

You make a thread about trying to cut costs, then don't want to cut back on your highest priced item.

Atleast give him alternatives and prices... thats a worthless statement by itself.

I thought he was looking for a place to get those components cheaper, not replace them. I'm confused..lol

Well he linked to specifc products at dirt cheap prices, I don't know what the budget is so what else am I supposed to say? I wouldn't get that graphics card on what looks like your budget.

if they can be replaced with part that will get me more or less equal performance on 2142/bf2 then by all means replace away.

@ des.kmal

my current rig:

athlon 3000+ 754 pin
K8ns-xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx mobo - by gigabyte
160gb hdd
1 gb generic unmatched cant-believe-it-works-together-bought-separately ram
radeon 9550 256mb (AGP)

piece of shit, eh?

PS: is it a more intellegent decision to go with 939 or AM2 CPU socket. i've heard that amd is moving away from 939, right?

edit:

@flaming_maniac: i just wanted to know what your reasoning behind that decision was. i just don't like to be a lemming, is all.

its not a POS comp, just not high end.   anyway, yes, AMD is going to AM2, moving away from 939. also, PLEASE dont wast 40$ unless you ahve it, which you dont because you are trying to cut costs... on a 7950, get a 7900gs, best bang for buck at this point in time.

then later, upgrade to a 8800GTX or GTS

As Kmal has said, a slightly lower card has a much better bang for your buck.

I would cut on the Processor. An Athlon 4200+ X2... Oh wait. I just found out that in the US that stupid Athlon thing is way cheaper than the E6300. Then get it ^^

Just one more thing:
GeIL Ultra 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2 800 is better than that RAM you got listed there. And the same price.

damn dude - you should have posted on our site for the OCZ ram....I had some spare that I couldn't use that I ended up giving away to Monty......can't beat free!  So far, Monty gets all my spare stuff as he is the first to reply when I post parts....anyway, be sure to check with me in the future......

personally i would go for

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6819103542

i know its $20 dollars more but the 1MB cache is more suited to games so if you can save $20 on you graphics card this will help remember you need to try not to have a bottleneck anywhere is you system, so this chip should last you through the gpu you get now and with some overclocking may even be ok for DX10 cards (technically this chip is the same as the FX62, the FX62 is just the same core clocked higher, granted you would need some extra cooling but thats only on the next upgrade).

http://tomshardware.co.uk/2006/11/29/ge … st_cpu_uk/

the conroe's seem best with DX10 but using 939 there were surprising results so with AM2 you should have a platform that can keep you going for quite a while(and keep pace with intel)

ps intel fan-boys please read the second link before flaming commences good luck dude !

Nvidia 8600's are tipped at $200-250 from what I hear, release date's on the other hand are not so clear, I'm hearing march 07 time so perhaps to late?  Wouldnt really pay more than $150 for a dx9 card now, for the worth of it, needs replaced in a year 8600 be right up your street .

7600GT in the mean time on newegg should suffice, saving of over $100, no need for a high end dx9 anymore.....

a mobo supporting ddr2 800 is too expensive for me right now.

Well, Asus got an alternative for exactly 4$ more:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6813131068

And if you don't want to spend more money, how about:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6813128321
(Still, with the Gigabyte you need to leave the BIOS untouched as far as updates are concerned, but you rather won't need updates... Just the voltage would have to be set to 1.9V...)
