chaff consists of strips of metal that reflect radar waves, looking like clouds somewhat. generally not glowing and on fire.

It probably just has one of those infra red devices installed to the bottom which release a flash and confuse the missle the presidents helicopter has this. The plane would also probably have flares/ chaff too.some_random_panda wrote:

That's assuming a Hostile Aircraft successfully avoided the Massive Fighter Screen with it and managed to launch. We can rule out Surface launched missiles, as I think it's safe to say the President won't be flying over any trouble areas with long range SAM's, and a single Shoulder Launched SAM would only take out one of the 747's engines, which would not bring it down. But I'm sure Air Force One has all the best in Defensive Countermeasures.some_random_panda wrote:

Correct, the enigne would release itself from the rest of the airplane (fall down). The worst case secnario would be the enigne giving extra thrus when being hit, thus moving forward before coming back and down. It may hit another enginek, thus leaving the plane with 2 engines. Therefore the plane would most likely crash since the engines can not give enough thrust (or control, I'm not sure) and lift at lower altidues (landing) it might crash.Major.League.Infidel wrote:

I highly doubt that potential attackers would consider only hitting one enigine...
So, I was in the army and only understand things that happen on the ground and not airplanes and boats... Does that serve some sort of purpose? Or do we just like to waste flares? Oh. It looks cool? OK. I'm glad I was in the army then.
