I let nTune (in the Nvidia control panel) to find the optimal clock speeds for my video card. They set it to clock speeds a bit higher than those, so I lowered than just a tiny bit. Now I go into Nvidia Monitor, and it has those yellows boxes, probably meaning, 'Caution, they are a bit too high'.

Should I lower them, or are they ok? I might need another fan or something if I want to keep them at these speeds, so the yellow box turns green again.

Any tips? Should I lower them?

PS: They revert back to normal anytime you shut off the computer and then turn it back on, how can I keep them at the same speeds all the time?

I guess you should, unless you have replaced the factory fan with a different one.
BTW, what kind of graphics card do you have? A 7600 GT?

No, I haven't. The only fan I think I have directed to the card is the fan on it itself. I can't exactly open my computer, there's another fan screwed onto the side panel.

EDIT: Oh lol, forgot to mention that. A 7900GS. It says it's factory overclocked, but the speeds were like Core @ 500 and Memory @ 650 or something like that. I thought those were pretty low, seeing as how a 7600 can get like 575/850 or so.

EDIT again: I got it to 550/758 and that's as high as they will go without turning yellow. Pretty good still, right?

Is 42-46 degree celsius a good temperture? (That's when I'm not running anything, no games, nothing)

Why do you want to overclock in the first place?

I have my 7600GT at 647MHz core and 1,71GHz memory (it's ddr2 so you have to divide that with 2, I can't bother to count it) and it's constantly at 57°C (even without OC, a bit weird) so I think that's not too high for you

Dude...STFU!

ryan_14: As long as your temps are good (under 70*C at load is okay, but above is okay too...just don't go above 90*C) and you don't get any artifacts in graphically intense applications (BF2 doesn't cut it, run 3dMark2006 for good results), then yeah, it's safe.

i would manually bump them down to about 1/2 the overclockage you are at now. so it would be something like this:

GPU: 525
MEM: 735

see if you still get heat issues.

edit: and not sure about nvidia chips, but for my ATi it runs idle around 40-50C.

Unless you have after market cooling, revert back to stock quickly.

Yeah, I got it at 550/758 or something, running at about 43 degrees.

I overclocked it just cuz I still get a bit of lag on SF maps.

And doc.josh, maybe you should STFU before opening your mouth. You pulverize the english language, and can't even comprehend what I'm talking about. So unless I ask you for help (which I won't these guys are better than you), keep your face shut.

EDIT: I actually read your lame-ass post josh, and actually understood what you were talking about. I can't take the side panel off because there is a fan screwed onto it. Sure, I can unscrew the fan, open er up, and look inside, but how am I supposed to close it and re-attach the fan moron?

how did the system builder close it in the first place? there must be just enough slack on the fan power wire to get the side panel off and on.

You're rig is gonna burn in half a year if you can't open it and get the dust out.

All you have to do is pop the side panel off, then kind of lean it downwards until you can slip your hands in there and unplug the fan power wire, then you are free to remove the panel completely.

When you are done, just do the same thing in reverse order.

I have two fans on my side panel, but there is plenty of slack in the wires to lay the panel right on my desk without even unplugging them.

No, I can just bring it down to the shop and get the to clean it for me for free. It's not really a priority to see inside my computer, I dont need to go throug the hassle of unscrewing and unpluggin' stuff, so it's no biggy.
