OK I've had this issue since day 1 and still haven't figured it out 100%, but I think I may have solved it.

Maybe 1 out of 5 times I play 2142, I get TERRIBLY low framerates inside the titans. Framerate would drop to 5 fps or so, something really horrid and underwatery, and all in-game chatter would be stuttery (me-e-e-e-d-d-d-d-iiiiic-c-c-c-c).

At first I thought it was because I was on a crap server, but then wondered if it was a memory problem. I have 2GB corsair, but then again have a 2-year old GeForce 6800 w/ 256MB ram so thought that could be it.

I did some googling and changed the aperture on my GPU, updated GPU drivers to the Xtreme G tweaked versions, and it seemed to help a bit but I still once in a while get the titan problem. Usually I shut down, reboot, and problem is solved.

Well it happened to me again just now and I immediately quit to the desktop and my computer was STILL laggy. I Ctrl-Alt-Del'd to get the task manager, and noticed that something called NmBgMonitor.exe was sucking up 400MB+ of memory usage. Googled that and found out that it's Nero Scout, which comes bundled with Nero 7. Apparently Scout watches your My Documents folders for new media.

I have a feeling that when 2142 writes to its folder in My Documents, Nero Scout somehow becomes activated and screws up somehow, turning into a memory bloat.

After killing NmBgMonitor.exe in task manager, I found Nero Scout in my start menu, started it up, and disabled it in the settings.

Hopefully problem solved.

If anyone else has the same problem as me, let us know, and let us know whether or not you've got Nero 7, and if not, your success with solving the problem.
