So yesterday i finally started to build my new PC,   with new parts i orderded.

Core 2 Duo E6600
Asus P5W-DH-deluxe
2 GB OCZ  800mhz

The 8800gtx and remaining parts where allready in my old system.

When i press the on/off button the PC jumps on,  but the screen stays black,  also the GPU fan stays at 100% all the time.
I checked all the connections,  even disconnected all the hardware exept the GPU, and still no boot.
Looked in the manual,  but there's nothing i overlooked or something.
i hastly build my old pc back together so i can post here, and contact the store i bought it .
because i really dont know what it could be except faulty hardware.

what are you talking about? i OWN that motherboard and i've never had ONE problem with it.

It is your RAM bud OCZ DDR2 usually have volts at 1.9 and the P5W and most other LGA775 'boards only take 1.8 or whatever.

Trust me, it is your RAM. I have some Corsair TwinX PC2-6400 2GB and it works fine.

i say motherboard dammit! just because you have not had issues, does not mean there is not a bad egg out there. i say 30% of all technology simply fail. i said the mobo was BAD, meaning you got a bad egg. hence why you should RMA it.

the video card would post whether there is RAM or not.

i also say its my mobo,   not my ram,  i even tested without the ram,  and it wouldn boot.
I know it wouldn finish the boot without RAM,   but i know from expierence,   the screen will go on,  even without RAM.

Most C2D boards have COMPATIBILITY ISSUES WITH OCZ RAM BECAUSE OF HIGH VOLTAGES. GOOGLE.

before you do anything crazy try resetting the BIOS and try to boot with only 1 stick. also take a look if your mobo is shorting against the case somewhere

Lies. My mobo runs 2.0v ram... and a lot of C2D boards can run ddr2 ram up to 2.5v...

When you buy LGA775 motherboards for C2D (not the 680 version) they are usually not equipped with the latest BIOS.

And the P5W has known compatibility issues with OCZ RAM. See Google.

Well, are you sure you didn't accidentally plug in a psu cable where it didn't belong? I mean, you're probably aware of what you're doing, but it still could've been an accident through a false mobo manual...

Neh,  i checked and rechecked all cables, and i know what im doing.
But i hear lots of story about a fals bios version,   and that i need it flashed trough a normal 775 processor,  or contact ASUS so they can send a bios chip to me.
So i contacted ASUS, and now lets hope for the best.

No it wouldn't. With bad RAM configs you very often get no video output at all.

It's almost certainly a RAM issue. I wouldn't try RMAing the MB till you have checked out your RAM properly. Try using just one stick, it could be a dual channel issue.

*edit*
Opps. Just noticed you've checked it without any RAM in. In that case it's probably MB, although have you checked your GPU is working properly? 8800GTX is a power hungry beast, could be not booting because you aren't feeding it enough power? What's your PSU?

PS. There's no way Asus will send you a new BIOS chip. They'll probably replace the board, but not an individual chip. You could probably buy one, if you want to buy some sort of EEPROM writing device as well.

i still say motherboard.

is there any way you could try different RAM in the board to see if that is the issue?

My old mobo is a socket 939,  so that not going to work,  also i dont know anybody with DDR2 RAM,  so ill ask the store where i bought it for a test stick.

And what do you mean with washers,   offcourse i have the spacers fitted,   but no washers?.

So the final update,    this afternoon i tried to boot with a normal DDR2 stick,   and even a new PSU,  but still no boot,  so i RMA'ed the mobo and send the cpu and Ram with it,  so they can sort it out for me.
And when i told them about the bios version isseu,  they apologized for not checking the bios, as it was a known problem,   and they where almost 100% sure that was the problem.
So i just wait and see.
