make it clear 1st IM NOT TALKING ABOUT THE PLACES

right now thats clear

im planning on building a 2nd computer this one im on atm is kinda sheite 3.2 P4 and like 512 RAM

ne way i dont want to hear storys about how this C2D crap is better, im not an intel person, i dont care how they benchmark or w/e

right now

as i said im not an Intel person im a AMD allways have been always will be.

so

Which AMD core is best San Diego or Venice?

i think from what i know its the San Diego as it has the larger L2 Cache than the Venice core

i just wanted 2 double check with some of the Tech's out there

Apparantly not.

I wonder why you would purchase a bit of hardware which is clearly outclassed for the same price?

Regardless, go for San Diego, if you must have AMD.

San Diego. Bigger cache, better silicon.

Seems silly not to go for an Intel chip though.

People who buy worse performance machines for the same price as something really good make no sense to me.

What the fuck. Name processors after cities?

AMD Brisbane. I like that...

Venice core. Larger cache wont mean much shit on AMD CPU's. Venice can probably overclock higher as well. But if your building a completely new PC, starting from scratch, go get core 2 duo, do I need to show benchmark numbers to prove you wrong?

Not true. San Diego cores get a much better performance boost from overclocking than Venice cores. They are also more durable to temperatures as they are made from higher grade strained silicon.

Sandy FTW!

Amazing overclockers. Look for the BNBOX version, the true San Diego. The CFBOX ones are Toledo cores with one defective core disabled. And before you ask, there's no way to enable the dead core, they're laser cut.

lol.

AM2 is the worst socket to go for. There is no future for AM2. It gets poor performance to price, due to crap utilisation of the higher frequency memory, and has already been rendered obsolete by socket AM3.

AM2 is about as good an idea as socket 940 (the predecessor of AM2) was when that was released.

AM2 is not king. You clearly know fuck all about CPU architecture. Buying an AM2 CPU is a really silly thing to do.

Your CPU, the X2 4600+, is available in a 939 version which represents better value for money (due to the CPU being based on older AMD designs that did not use DDR2 memory and thus the new chips don't take full advantage of the frequency and lose the benefit of better latencies that they are optimised for). The one thing AM2 did have going for it until recently was that it was the newest AMD socket - with the release of AM3, AM2 has been made totally redundant. Anyone who goes out and buys an AM2 CPU is an idiot.

939 may be out of production, but that doesn't change the fact that AM2 offers NO advantage over it. Unless you consider paying for DDR2 and getting no better performance than DDR1 an advantage.

Unless he already has DDR RAM he can use, AM2 is the better choice.  DDR is going away, so buying DDR now, and then DDR2 later makes no sense.

I figure since he was asking about 939 then he was happy with DDR. As you said, he may indeed already have some he can use. He might be working within a budget(as I did) and DDR2 is out of reach at the moment.

That's the only reason though. Which I can't say I find very convincing. It does make more sense to buy DDR2 memory at the moment. But I can't see any scenario where any AM2 CPU is the best choice for anyone building a system.
