I'm just passing along some information that i feel is useful to those considering buying an HDTV and have and/or will have a next gen system (ps3 or xbox 360).

i have a samsung slimfit hdtv txs3082wh. i was concerned that it would not correctly display a 720p signal, because it's native res is 1080i. however, this model of samsung HDTV DOES upconvert to a 720p signal. it looks amazing, especially while playing blazing angels.

1080 – 720 = Zero Difference?

What exactly is the difference between 1080 and 720 resolutions on your HDTV? This article says there is almost no difference and goes on to explain why. Food for thought.

i have to. the games i have right now run at 720p ONLY. my tv supports 1080i natively, so i have to convert in order to play. luckily my tv does that, otherwise i'd be playing in 480p. with the current firmware version, the ps3 downconverts to 480p if you don't have a capable hdtv. there may be a firmware upgrade in the future to address this issue.

to kmarion:

thanks for the link and info. unfortunately, my tv only goes up to 1080i, not 1080p. as i stated above, i was mainly concerned with not being able to display anything greater than 480p, which it turns out i can.

note: this only is a concern with the ps3, the xbox360 scales automatically for older hdtv's.

screw hdtvs. get the sceptre 22" wide monitor from costco...has a HDMI input. you can run your computer games on it as well! problems solved.

and i would try not the internet for meth...just a thought.

I have a choice of 720p and 1080i on my old JVC 42" Plasma, and the only reason I chose 720 was because I could see a slight flicker on the 1080i (only I could see it btw). Other than that, there is fuck-all difference in image quality.

With native resolutions of LCDs however, wtf is 1366x768? (and their ads say they're HD-Compatible)
