So? We've answered your question quite concisely already. San Diego is the better option, more cache, better silicon - makes for good overclocking CPUs.

Yeah, it's like they're salesmen and they're gonna get a bigger commission check if they up-sell you to a newer CPU.

Anyhoo, go with the San Diego. It's a damn fine CPU, overclocks like a dream. I've got mine from 2.2GHz stock to 2.8 and never above 42C.

hey zero the retard listen up...

Stop sucking on AMD's dick & listen up...Intels Core 2 duo E6300 is $180
And it beats out 90% of AMD's current CPU selection...only thing better are the newest of AMD's CPU's. (Which are all $300+)

Its obvious Intel's the best choice.

"I dont care what benchmarks say"...lol...oh man need I say more, get off AMD's dick and buy Intel.

AM2 is not king. You clearly know fuck all about CPU architecture. Buying an AM2 CPU is a really silly thing to do.

Your CPU, the X2 4600+, is available in a 939 version which represents better value for money (due to the CPU being based on older AMD designs that did not use DDR2 memory and thus the new chips don't take full advantage of the frequency and lose the benefit of better latencies that they are optimised for). The one thing AM2 did have going for it until recently was that it was the newest AMD socket - with the release of AM3, AM2 has been made totally redundant. Anyone who goes out and buys an AM2 CPU is an idiot.
I can see there's a little bit of "my cpu is better than yours" but seriously I know absolutely dick about processors so please take this question seriously. I just ordered a new machine with the processor you just named (AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+ w/ Hyper Transport & Dual Core Stuff), is it really shit? I might have time to call & upgrade to either one of these 2:

AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 5200+ Processor w/ HyperTransport and Dual Core Technology
or
AMD Athlon™ 64 FX-62 Dual Core Processor.

I'm on the phone with Alienware right now if anyone can answer sorry to ask this in someone elses thread

*Edit:* nevermind

Don't get either get a C2D.

If you're buying AMD get a 939 or AM3 CPU. On a huge budget (which it sounds like you have, since you've got money to throw away on Alienware branding) get a AM3.

.........this was a multiple choice question & none of your answers were in the choices

but thanks for actually responding either way, +1 for you although your answer failed

I'm gettin an Aurora 7500 & those are my only options. I drive a mini-van with 250,000+ miles, wear the same boots I've owned since i was 16, haven't bought a new pair of jeans in 2 years & have dealt with a broken right hand for over 3 years.....even if it's the only good looking thing in my life i want my computer to be pretty! I do realize it's way overpriced but I mean it glows for god's sake, isn't that worth an extra $1,000?

Seriously though thanks, I'm gonna look into the ones you named & see if I can't get one instead of what I have coming.
