Sorry im quite a noob when it comes to reading out processor spec's and comparing them but will I notice a large difference between these two processors running 32 bit mode until vista.

I know that but is there any estimates on how much times faster it will be they seem to have the same Cache and the 3800 only has an extra 300MHZ even though from what i know 64 is dual core right?

The difference in speed would be like comparing a P4 to the new C2D.  The A64 is far more efficient with higher IPC.  Even without a 300MHz clock advantage, the A64 3800+ would smoke that XP.

HardOCP used an XP2400+ in their older benchmarks to compare against the P4 and new A64 chips.  Although it's not quite a 3000+, you should be able to get a rough estimate of just how much slower the XP is than the A64 line.  By the way, the link I'm sending you does include an A64 3800+ (single core) to compare against.
