I have a question about RAM. Should I get 2 x 512 MB sticks and have them dual channeled, or just buy a 1 gb stick?

if you have enough slots, 2 x 512. cheaper to replace. if one fails, only have half a stick to replace.

Also dual channel will normally run faster. I just upgraded to 2 x 512 sticks running dual channel and it made a huge improvement

Very nice. kingston works well. I prefer corsair but o well. Good job with using new egg. Good choice with a heat spreader. i approve.

Good call, unless you want to get a 1 gig stick now and then buy another 1 gig stick later.  Just a thought.  2 gigs makes a big difference in bf2
