I have a DVD+RW drive, it says so smack on the front of it, but then when I put in a DVD+RW disk (that also says that on the front) it asks me what action to take, I say open a writable folder, but I can't write anything to it. Under properties it says there are 0 kb left on the disk, so something is up, as this is a blank disk. I can write to CDs fine. Anyone run into this problem or have an idea?

What program are using to burn with?  If it is just Windows, get a real burning program.

^^ you need to use a proper DVD buring program such as nero.

Windows does not allow you to burn to DVD, only CD's

You could use a torrent to look for one.  I use DVDCopy, it came with my motherboard.

You would have received a CD/DVD of some sort with the burner/computer, otherwise that drive is absolutely useless. Check you're mobo box (the odds-and-ends box that came with your computer. You people get them over there right?)

my guess is its the dvd media your using. i have some off-brand dvds that i got for my old computer that simply would not burn. it made the drive think it was just a cd-rom. but when i got some big-brand dvd+r disks, it worked fine.

Ok, since everyone is asking, here is the long story.

Nero came with my computer, but it is only some sort of trial version that doesn't do anything  but let me play the video off DVDs but not the audio. I also got PowerDVD, which through no amount of looking when I first got the thing could I find the CD key needed, so it's useless. I also got something from Asus with my motherboard, but about 6 months later the board went dead and I had to get another which is no longer Asus, so after a reformat I did to get Windows on my new raptor it wouldn't let me install the program because I no longer had an Asus board.

Never fear though, I found this thing for free called ImTOO that I think will work. Thanks everyone!

PowerDVD's key was usually on a sticker on the front of the cd pouch. Nero needs you to enter a key too otherwise it goes into demo mode.

I use ImTOO to convert videos to play on my cell phone.

It shouldn't let you down.

I entered the key but it went into demo mode anyways. After sifting through packaging from an entire computer set up and two motherboards, I think the PowerDVD packaging is long gone.

Ahhh, it doesn't look like it is, but I think Whiskey_Oktober is right, it didn't see any space on the disk. I think it might be the media.
