On Jan. 1, two security researchers will begin publishing details of a flood of security vulnerabilities in Apple's products. Their plan is to disclose one bug per day for the entire month, they said Tuesday.

The project is being launched by an independent security researcher, Kevin Finisterre, and a hacker known as LMH, who declined to reveal his identity.

Some of the bugs "might represent a significant risk," LMH said in an e-mail interview. "Others have a lower impact on security. We are trying to develop working exploits for every issue we find."

The two hackers plan to disclose bugs in the Mac OS X kernel as well as in software such as Safari, iTunes, iPhoto and QuickTime, LMH said. Some of the bugs will also affect versions of Apple's software designed to run on Microsoft Corp.'s Windows operating system, he added.

I always just figured no one hacked Apples because no one cared to!  No large corporations I've ever encountered use Apple/MACs.  What are you going to break in and steal someones music files or the artwork they've been working on!?

also how many days would it take to list all the problems with windows?

97? C'mon I was thinking more in the 200's

*Edit:* and btw every single professional photographer/designer I know uses mac systems & a single finished file can easily be worth over $10,000 in alot of cases so there is definitely some stuff worth stealing.

It's not about how many problems Windows has, it's about the fact that everyone thought Macs were simply more secure.  The fact is that their higher level of security was "Security through obscurity" because there simply wasn't a large enough populous of them for hackers to want to bother with them.  Since the new Macs have the Intel processors now, they are becoming even more popular.  This growth was going to lead to the inevitable fact that hackers would start targeting Mac users and a large number of previously unknown flaws would appear.

The same thing happened with Firefox.

Sorry didn't mean to offend...

Guess I should consider this POS Compaq laptop my company assigned to me... man I have had so many problems with this thing!  I've been debating finding some way to kill it so I could maybe get a Dell.

Any recommendations on how to kill a lappy without making it obvious?  (j/k I would never dream of destroying company property)

From the instant Mac OS's could run on Intel CPUs this day was inevitable, I just hope Mac OS is up to the task of taking on the slew of viruses that are going to be thrown their way.

Finally A BUG != AN EXPLOIT A bug has the potential to be exploited, but may turn out to not be possible -- so it's really overstating a fact.

My Mac is worth 2000 Euro's, has more than 2500 Euro's of software on it, it is accompanied by a 3500 Euro costing photo scanner (designed for mac, cus PC's can't handel Post-Script).

Mac's are a treat to be stolen. Why do you think most Mac's have pre-build in Kensington Slots. Not because it looks fancy, to protect them from being stolen more likely.

Windows is used by what, 80% of the world? (guestimate), so of course its in the limelight. A virus has always been about impact. Adware = virus + profit. The > the audience, the > the profit.

Stability:
Mac stuff only ever runs Mac stuff. So if programs designed solely for one OS is running on that OS; and an OS designed solely for a small group of programs is only running those programs, of course you're going to have greater stability.
Less holes (as there's less support for a vast array of programs needed now, so you can focus on the select few),
And the developers have more time to work on the core of the programs, as there's less script-kiddies going 'l00kz at my hax! I r haxing joor interweb explodarz!'

Price:
Something sane now its running on a Core2Duo, so you can go to a PC store and buy parts for your Mac (yes you could do this for a while, but not fo' CPUs)
