server files and cl;ient files when speaking about linux are completely different as the server does not use a graphics engine i have in my travels today come across cedega a code for linux that i'm impreessed by i will let you know how i get on btw hi zeon! howya getting on m8?
Server should run. Client? Unless you can get it running under Wine, nope. It's DirectX which Linux doesn't natively support (unless you're running a Windows emulator like Wine). Unless someone wants to pay licensing to port it to OpenGL so it'll run under Linux[E.S.W.A.T.]Quik wrote:

cedega runs it in a window type environment it's actually very handy
AND to top it off linux is surprisingly easy to use and handy since the source code for all apps is free for personal use

Correction on that. Linux is only free if you're downloading something like Ubuntu Fedora. Or, as someone once said, "Linux is only free if your time isn't valuable". You want Red Hat Enterprise, you're paying lots of cash for it.[E.S.W.A.T.]Quik wrote:

Source code is NOT available for all apps. Many apps for Linux are open source but not all of them. For example, Oracle runs on Linux and I doubt, very much, that they're interested in giving you full source for it. There are plenty of other apps, including some commercial games, that fall into the same category; no source code.
As for cedega, it looks interesting enough. Still, Linux isn't exactly known for stellar graphics drivers so I'm always iffy on that. I suppose it'd be interesting to try. I'm curious to see what kind of performance the Linux systems will get vs. just running it in Windows.
oracle isn't free because it's a business solution and linux is only free if it is for personal use also source code of software based on open source material by terms of the open source laws is only paid voluntarily or if it is to be used commercially. the games aren't open source as the engines and etc. are retail created they are not based on an open source software they are developed by the companies privately and are fully created by the company unless they are willing to pay royalties to the original developer.
this is how it is trust me i work as a junior manager for a leading multi-national IT company which i'm legally not allowed to name.

cedega, while not free, should run it - see here
I got it installed on my gentoo system, but didn't bother getting past the CD protection, so never saw how well it ran...
Only try this route if you have a beast of a system - cedega is significantly slowly than running games natively in windows
hope this helps

cedega is free for personal use if you can recompile the source code the app yes is chargeable but the source code is there for you to use as i did, very handy and my 256 laptop runs bf2 with cedega on knoppix so i'm pretty certain this baby will wipe it out with suse 64 and cedega
