2GB ram
radeon x850 pro vid card

i installed 2142 2 days ago it was working fine , i woke up this morning and it freezes and crashes every time.
it will freeze the screen then restart automatically like 25 seconds after i notice the freeze.

anyone know why this would be?

you may need to re-patch again.. make sure you have the updated drivers for your vid card...try the vid card setting all on low... if it is only happening with this game, then i really suggest a re-install, do it in safe mode with networking as sometimes windows causes some unexpected errors a little later down the line... good luck

Could be that your graphics are too high. My friend regularly freezes on medium graphics.

For starters, there's a "Help" subsection to this forum. That's the appropriate place for posts such as this. But moving on...

Computers don't just magically stop working properly. Either something has changed between now and when you first installed or the game never worked right.

When the game crashes is it a Crash-To-Desktop (i.e. the game closes and you're left staring at your Windows Desktop) or does it freeze your whole computer and you have to restart? Is there a repeating sound (like part of one of the game's sounds is stuck in an infinite and incredibly annoying loop)? Are there any other symptoms like sudden lagginess or slow performance, graphical anomalies, or sounds made by your computer before the game crashes?

Also have you made any changes to your computer (either hardware or software) since installing BF2142? Changes might include installing/removing hardware, installing new drivers for your video card/sound card/motherboard/any other kind of hardware, or using Windows Update. If you have in fact made changes since you installed BF2142 I would un-do those changes and see if the problem solves itself.

Let me know a bit more information and I'll see if I can help you any more.

Dude, it's your X850.

Switch from to another card, whether it is ATI or Nvidia.

X850's aren't really friendly with the Battlefield engine... I know from personal experience.

Actually, I have one right now. And 2142 and 2 sitting on my shelf. But, you know what? I can't play them because of my X850 crashing, giving me blue screens with no error report.

I'm getting an X1950 Pro this boxing day.

Get a new card on boxing day, while they last.

Good Luck.

EA sucks thats the main problem someone has to teach them how to code their games and not rush the games then release them half finished. There gameplay ideas are awesome but wit all the glitches CTD's its depressing sometimes. When it comes to having it all glitched up and they notice there customer satisfaction is going down they release new maps, unlock or expansion packs to shut them up for a bit.

One thing I'm unable to do is alt-tab and since I help run servers manage programs from time to time I need to alt tab and I can't with bf2142 I have to turn off the game and then do what I want to do...

I love playing BF2 and BF2142.

Video card problem, got same at FX5900 and x850, without any changes in hardware or soft runs nice with other cards, higher in the ladder

- EA PUBLISHER !!!
...and game developer can't catch all bugs, its too hard, even if they have 10000000000000 testers
