does the north bridge heat up under play?

i ask because the mobo i got for christmas has a problem with cooling the northbridge, it runs at around 60C in most reports, although i have no idea if thats idle or under intense workouts or overclocking, etc.

compusa's website said they had a good aftermarket fan & heatsink in stock, but when my mom went to get one, they said they didnt have any.

so basically, i'm going to have to order one after christmas and i want to know if i should keep the workout light on it until it comes.

Yeah, take it easy until you can cool it better.

k...define take it easy

oh yeah: my case has a side mounted 120mm fan that will be blowing at a point directly 2 or 3 inches from it. will that help the heat?

What mobo you got? Did you just get it for this Christmas, cuz if you did I'd RMA it if I were you.

this one:me

i'd do that, except its a good board everywhere else, its cheap, and its easier to just get a better cooler for it, or string in a fan, or peel a cpu fan out of an old case and attach it in with some lengths of plastic and screws.

im pretty sur that the 120 mm fan you are about to insall will help.

Yeah, check that it's working. The NB fan on my old Abit mobo stopped once, but I was able to get it working again with a drop of 3-in-1 oil. Also check that it's seated correctly, see if it wiggles around any. Do it gently though. If you have any, you could possibly replace the thermal paste on it with some Arctic Silver 5 and lower the temp.
