Can someone give me a link for some free overclocking software please?
The BIOS is 100% free.

Don't use crap software, it's not worth it. Use your BIOS.

If you don't know how, then don't do it.
u used to use this free program someone on here gave me and i cant remember anymore.

i dont feel like screwing around with my BIOS
Then why bother over clock? The BIOS gives a much more stable, accurate, faster, rock-solid over clock. Programs are glitchy, unstable, not a lot of options...etc. Anyone who knows what they're doing when it comes to over clocking will say the same.

Yes, the best way to overclock CPU and RAM is through the BIOS. If you don't know what you're doing, don't try until you learn a little about how it's done. Most motherboard makers have a forum. Find yours, go there and do some looking around. See what other people with your board have been able to hit, and ask any questions. Most old timers won't give you grief for being a "n00b," that is unless you act like an ID-10-T. Just explain that you're new to oc'ing and you want to learn as much as you can.

you may want to run a 9h stress test to make 100% shure your comp will survive overclocked as some after a few days it may just melt your computer *not literally* but it will cause your computer problems

you alos know that if you do overclock your CPU you take the manufacturers guarantee away and it also takes a few years of the CPU's life

so you loose bout 3 years of life or less for a perfomance increase

dont auto overclock as thats gay

do it manually in the bios
It doesnt take the manufacturer garantee away because they have no way to know that you overclocked your cpu, all is set into the bios, not saved into the cpu.

But yes, it takes a few years of its life, but these days, we change hardware often, so it wont make a big difference.

Personnaly I oced my P4C Northwood from 2,8 ghz to 3,0 (omg..!!). I did this to reach the psychological step of 3, but I didnt see a big difference and im not planning to oc it more because I dont feel I need it.

I OC'd my CPU from 1.8GHz > 2GHz
I OC'd my GPU from 400/490 > 420/500
